Hi All,

I recently sold a few .22’s with the hopes of replacing them with one nice one. I think I have narrowed my search down to a CZ 457 American in .22LR. I am looking for input on optics for this rifle. Specifically scope and rings.

I have never been too much of a glass snob, usually wait and find a descent Leupold on sale for my center fires and call it a day. What would you folks recommend for rings and glass as well as what reticle. I am usually taking grouse (25 yards) and rabbits (up to 70 yards). I am hoping to keep cost under 300 for rings and scope, but could be convinced to up the budget.

Thanks

My favorite rimfire hunting scope's are the Leupold Freedom line, 2-7x32 or 3-9x40 (rimfire models). Great glass for the money, and light. Scope and rings will be a little over your budget, but won't be over $400 total.

I use a leupold vx freedom on my 455 American with leupold Dove tail rings. I payed 380 for the whole deal. Perfect setup, light and handles really well. Glass on the leupold is really good for 300.

For about $600 you can get a used Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 scope. I mention this in case you budget starts to stretch up. IMO once you spend more than about $200 on a scope, it makes sense to jump to $600 and get that Bushnell 6500 with it's sweet 6x zoom range and adjustable side parallax.

"Ditto" , exactly what would suggest , only I wouldn't sell my 6500 , 2.5-16x42 for
$600.00 therefore if you do find one for that price Buy it .

Thanks for the input guys. I am looking into used Vx Freedoms for the build right now. Seems like a good product and is within the budget. Seems how this rifle will also be used by a young shooter, we want a good platform but ok with room for upgrades in the future

I've got 3 Freedom scopes on rimfires. I find their glaas to be great value for the money, you'll be happy with it.

Instead of creating a new thread, I guess I will continue this one. I am looking for good ring choices to go with my Leupold freedom on the 457. I understand they need to be for 11mm dovetail, but I am looking for input on height.

I imagine most are running 1” ring height. Any feedback or input on make / model I would appreciate

I personally put picatinny rails on my CZ's so that I can stick to picatinny/weaver rings on all tools. I've used DiP and Area419 rails with good luck, but I'm sure there are lots of other good ones. I usually try to get my scope as low as is possible and still get a good cheek weld, sticking to low or medium rings. I've used lots of Burris Zee rings, made from steel, but aren't too heavy, reasonable cost. Also had really good luck with Vortex rings. I prefer 30mm scopes, but the Freedom line are mainly 1", so little choice there. Hope that helps a bit.

Scorpion Outdoors have a good selection of scopes. They are a Canadian Company, and their scopes have unlimited, transferable lifetime warranties. Stick to their mid to higher priced models; which are still inexpensive compared to the competition, and you will be very pleased with the clarity, brightness and functionality. I have one of these on my CZ455 .17 HMR and love it: https://www.scorpionoutdoors.com/collections/red-hot/products/red-hot-17-4-12x40?variant=23147735813

They are becoming very popular in my area of the past few years.

I always like it when folks finish their threads, so I am going to do just that.

I ended buying the CZ 457 American, 24” threaded barrel. Took the advice here and went for the Leupold freedom 3-9x40 mm with a medium height set of Warne 70/30 rings. Couldn’t be happier. Heck, I even think she looks ok, what do you think?

Thanks guys, I am really forward to getting my son out for a day at the range to see how it does. I have owned a lot of rimfires over the years, but never attempted to build a tac driver. I am sure it will exceed the precision of the marlin papoose it is replacing
