Yikes it seems every one is getting in on the CZ 457 craze . A relative of mine wants a CZ 457 Synthetic .22 LR
for grouse does not want a wood stocked rifle .

He is torn about what barrel length to get as the rifle comes in 16 inch or 20

I can’t offer any advice as I don’t know . Which is more accurate ?

Thank You !

Doesn’t matter. There is a myth saying 16” at least because most 22lr has twist ratio 1:16.
16 or 20 won’t affect accuracy, it’s just aesthetic

Sigh, another Leavenworth post that could be solved with a Google. The only difference is muzzle velocity and how hard it is to carry in the forest. At 50y MV is a non issue.

Hey play nice LOL !
Just did some Mr. Google seems it makes squat difference . The powder is burnt up before the end of the 16 inches .
I will TRY and ask questions that are not easily Googled . It’s the Internet !

If the main purpose is shooting grouse and other small game or plinking, four inches won't matter one way or the other. Both are relatively short rifles, one 34 inches, the other 38.5 (just over three feet, a yardstick plus 2.5 inches). By comparison, many popular centerfire hunting rifles are usually even longer.

As for MV, don't worry about it for hunting. Besides, no one can know what an ammos MV will be in any rifle unless it's tested. Bore characteristics and condition will often influence ammo MV as much as or more than length. If faster MV's are required, use faster ammos.

Suggest to the prospective buyer to choose the one he likes better.

Don't listen to him. As he has no room to talk.

Personally, it just comes down to what looks the best for him.

I have always prescribed to that theory and when someone has questions on a topic I know of I don’t mind answering until they get it .
Having said that some I find SOME very knowledgeable people versed in a discipline are not very patient with explaining or delivering their knowledge . Not everyone SOME !

Hey Leavenworth there R no dumb questions , over & over & over again .LOL...

In theory, a shorter barrel will "swing" faster. But people have been killing grouse with longer barrels since the dawn of time. Alot of Cooeys were 22-27"

Guess the best advice would be. See if a person at the range has both a 16 and 20 and try.

I have CZ452 Varmint, Style and 2 x Scouts. Guess what my favorite barrel length is. Muzzle velocity between 16 inch and 20 barrels, on average, are practically the same, according to actual tests done by cutting down barrels from 26" down to 12"...IIRC. Most if not all, .22 ammo will lose velocity with barrels shorter than 16".
At this age, I've forgotten more than can remember. Accuracy wise, my 4 452s all wear scopes and are equal, for most practical purposes, like plinking, informal target shooting or hunting. If you like to use iron sights, the longer sight radius of longer barrels, say a 26" Lux, naturally offer higher potential accuracy.

The Scouts with their 16 inch barrels are noticeably quicker handling. IMO, 16 inches is the perfect length for all around use.

You can try my 452s since I'm also in the Lower Mainland.

Thank You Easyrider . It’s for a relative of mine so I’m going to let him know to shoulder both rifle lengths Leavenworth

Thanks fellas he went with the 20 inch ! Not much difference in weight but I could see how the 16 inch would be great slung on you back and not have the barrel getting caught in low branches if you chose it for hunting
