I'm interested in buying a CZ 511 semi automatic .22.

My questions are:

I live in Calgary and none of the gun shops seem to stock them - are they still available new?

If so, where can I find one?

What price can I expect to pay?

Any help will be appreciated.

S pie

This rifle has been discontinued for a few years now. They were a premium priced rifle when they were new so you'll pay a premium for a used one if you can find one. I live in Edmonton and I have one that is in like new condition and that is because it is having feeding issues, so I haven't shot it much.
When it feeds it is a very accurate rifle.
I also have one of the original BRNO 581 which is the predessor to the 511, and is a great shooting rifle and accepts the 511 magazines. FS

If your talking of the original 511... they've been discontinued since mid 80's I think. They reindused it again several years back at a much less quality. They are easy to distinguish. The original had the trigger near the back of the trigger guard. Then new version has it in the middle. The rear and front side bands were cut out with the barrel where the newer version have then pressed on like rings. Several other changes too. Save your money and look for the original and not get a left over new stock of the newer version.

Thank you, Zywina. I have a CZ 452 .22 and I am hugely impressed with this rifle. So, I decided to get a semi in CZ as well. However, Fassteel (another GN member), made me aware of the fact that these rifles may have feeding problems and I have in the meantime confirm that the CZ 511 in fact has feeding problems. As a result, I have decided against this rifle and will look at the Ruger 10/22 again.

Thanks for your input, though.

if you want a good semi take a look at the Thompson center, T/C, it has a similar appearance to the CZ and very good quality, FS

Sorry I have to disagree. I've owned both and my new version of the 511 is far superior in quality to the eighties versions (I had 2) that I had. The action on mine is smoother than my 1961 581. Mine has no feeding issues whatsoever, and most don't (do some research on rimfire central), the ones that do can be fixed usually with some mag "tuning" or replacement of the action sping. I owned a TC Silver Lynx and I can tell you first hand that the craftsmanship of the CZ 511 is better.

My bad. I thought we were talking about the Brno 611 and then Cz 611a. Ive owned both. The original version was far better built, no shortcuts, better milling, no band stamped, ect.. ect. Should be more cautious of what Im reading. Now... back to original broadcasting.... lol
