Good day folks.
I’ve got a plain jane 527 synthetic in 762 with stock irons. Been thinking of upgrading the sighting system to apertures.
Two options, NECG and Skinner.
I’m leaning towards Skinners, which require d&t the rear reciever bridge, but, they’re very low profile. The NECG are adjustable on the fly, but, bulky.

Who’s got experience with either?

Did you have to removed the rear sight to use the NECG peep sight?

Frankly, I think the rifle looks better without the factory rear sight, but because the aperture is higher, being mounted on the receiver, and the front sight is higher to accommodate that, the factory rear sight doesn't interfere with the sight picture. But the factory rear sight doesn't serve much purpose once you've installed the higher front sight, it will cause you to hit low. A bigger issue is that if at some time in the future you intend to mount a scope, depending on the length of the scope, the factory rear sight could interfere with it. I also found that the front sight hood, with it's "open window" design made the front sight bright in the center and shadowed at the top, where you need to focus. That front sight hood is in the drawer with the factory rear sight and the factory front sight.

I like the NECG receiver sights for both the 527 and the full sized rifles. A small issue I ran into when zeroing with my 527, a .223 with a 20" barrel, is that despite the high front sight blade, the aperture stem was a bit too long. It was a simple fix, but despite the high front sight blade, it still came up for me.
