CZ 527 bolt handle scope clearence

I just bought a 2019 cz 527. I heard that the older ones had a bolt handle that you needed to modify for a scope. And that the newer ones were fine and didn't need to be modified. Is this true? If so what year did they change to the new bolt handle?.

James Calhoon in Havre, Montana sells a bolt handle that will solve your problem. I have dealt with him in the past, he is a real stand up guy, one of us. He specializes in CZs and I have found his products to be top drawer quality.

Medium rings have always worked for me. I prefer Warne, but there are several brands that can be found with our sponsors. I don't know when the change-over occurred, but my 527 is a 2021 model year and clearance is not an issue at all with medium rings. Older or newer, the 527 is worth every penny to get working to your specific needs. Funny enough, mine is now a dedicated iron sights affair. The newer sights are excellent.

Oh did you get rid of the old irons?. They make modified bolt handles but there tactical with a big bolt knob and dont look good on a classic rifle. I wouldnt mind just getting a newer factory bolt handle.

Depending upon how much interference you have, simply switching to a scope with a slimmer eyepiece can often solve the problem. Leupolds, especially fixed powers, have nice slender eyepiece bells that might allow the bolt to cycle without making contact.

If you are a real gunnut...i.e. if you have boxes and bins and drawers and shelves loaded with assorted bits and pieces and rings and optics :)...try searching through them to see if you already have a solution to the problem before you start grinding or filing or spending more cash. :)

Great tips!!. But im sadly not at that level parts collection wise.

Well then...get started in that direction! :)

Okay, that's not immediately helpful. But what you can do is mount up the scope and rings you have and want to use, with the bolt handle removed from the gun. Then start inserting the bolt, and when it contacts the rear edge of the eyepiece bell, you can measure how much higher the rings need to be and/or how much narrower the eyepiece bell needs to be in order for the bolt to clear it. You might find that a wee bit of filing on the bolt will solve your issue, or that an additional height of 0.1 or 0.2 inches in the rings will do it. There's easily that much difference between different brands of rings; you might get lucky and find another brand that will work...plus your old rings can go into a drawer as "seed stock" to start off you very own collection of assorted junk! :)

I realize that CZ's have their own weird proprietary grooved receivers, but there are still a number of scope ring makers that provide aftermarket alternatives. Fingers crossed. :)

Leupold medium are the lowest rings I think from experience. I run Burris mediums which are a little higher, I use average ocular size scopes and they have plenty of clearance.

At one point I had the old factory, new factory, and a glades armory bolt handle.

The action is a little prone to binding, I find the new style much better then the glades armory one was for smoothness.
Not as much off center pressure.

Warne medium fixed rings with a leupold 2-7x... I just couldn't find the QD rings at the time.

Purchased my CZ 527 in 2017. Scope mounted in CZ 1" rings made for use on the 527 back then. Bought the rings on the CGN EE. Scope is Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33mm. Bolt clears OK.
