I am planning to buy one of these this week for plinking and small game hunting. The twist rate is 1:12...and I plan to shoot over 90% 55gr ammo. Is this okay in a 1:12 rifle and still get good accuracy?

I'm getting one in 7.62x39. If they are anything like my other CZ's they will be the cats ass.
1:12 will probably be good for 55 gr and better for lighter loads like the 45 gr varmint rounds.

So I've been trying to do some research on 55gr ammo in a 1:12 barrel on the net and it seems to be that MOST people are saying it will shoot 55gr ammo but it is only good to about 50yards and nearing 100 yards it may not even hit the paper due to lots of tumbling and turning.
I know with lighter loads the CZ 527 Carbine will work great but half the reason I want this carbine is too shoot the cheap and common 55gr FMJs at the range. Is there any point in getting a faster twist barrel put on it? like a 1:7?

Had a Remington Model Seven .223 with a 1:12 twist barrel and it shot 55 gr just fine.

Remember, the original M-16's had 1:12 barrels and the issue ammo was 55 gr.

Won't properly stabilize anything heavier, but will be great with 55 gr.

I have the American with the standard barrel. Currently it is zeroed at 200m with 45-60gr pretty much all the way. It will tack drive 55gr all day long. Profile of the heavier bullets may help with getting over the 60gr but 55 was made for that cal dude. Dont even think about it. Tumble my ass. It is wickedly accurate. Just get out and shoot it. It is a VERY capable varmint rifle, with or without a heavy barrel. Not to mention a delight to shoot. I reload so am loading up to 65gr now to see how that shoots. Most of what I load to shoot is 55gr everything and it likes all of it very much. I cant shoot cloverleafs myself but my sled can.

bogie....the carbine barrel is quite a bit shorter then the American one and it snot a heavy barrel. Will it still be okay? I am probably more worried then I should be but the gun isn't not cheap for me so I wanna make sure everything is okay with it lol

From what I've read, they started putting the varmints out now with 1:9 twist.
Not sure if that's the whole 527 line. By now most should have 1:9.

I checked CZ website yesterday and they still are issued with a 1:12 twist.
55gr will work in ANY 223. Go shoot it and fear not. Have some fun.

Absolutely correct - as for barrel length, the original M-16 / Ar-15 all had 20" barrels (and 1:12 twist as I mentioned above).

My advice is: stop sweating it, you will be good to go with 55 gr.

1:12 is just fine for 55 grain bullets. Keep in mind that until the recent popularity of heavier bullets, most .223s were made with 1:12 barrels.
