CZ 527 Chambering Issues

Hello,

I have a new to me CZ 527 in 7.62x39 - and I love it. I've had issues chambering close to half the rounds though when I shot it the first time. At first I thought it was just a stiff bolt, but then noticed sometimes it cycled smoothly, and other times is was difficult. A few rounds I couldn't push the bolt all the way forward, or couldn't close the bolt at all. I took the rounds out and noticed that some of them are getting scratched, as if they are too large for the chamber.

Anyone else have this issue, and have a fix other than kicking out the rounds that don't fit properly? I've tried the dominion non-corrosive, some Czech surplus, and some Barnaul FMJ and had the same problem with all of them. Havent tried my PSP rounds in it quite yet.

Of course they all cycle and shoot fine from the SKS. But some just don't chamber properly in the CZ. Is the CZ just too picky or might I need to get this checked out?

Mine did this as well, I found it to be the stock in letting was to deep, so the mag sat to high in the action. So I bedded it to get the clearence right And I bought another mag and it worked fine. After fiddling with my origonal mag I believe the spring was installed backwards. So now it works great
 
I noticed scratches on rounds when my carbine was new. I attributed the marks from sharp magazine lips. I took the mag down and used some steel wool and then scotch bright to smooth them out. It now cycles smoother and no more scratched up casings. Hth

this was exactly what i done with all my cz's. Also when watching TV one night, I sat and cycled the action to help break things in just a little more.
 
Mine had no issues clambering any ammo I shot...surplus or new manufacture...but I did find issues cycling the surplus. so hot they case expanded and jammed the bolt. nothing a good knock didn’t fix, but I stopped shooting surplus cause of the hassle.
 
I have a 527 in .223 with the same issue. I believe the feed lips on the magazine have a sharp edge that bites into the brass as the bolt tries to strip a round from the mag. It gets progressively easier to push the bolt closed as the round count in the mag goes down due to less spring pressure pushing up on the cartridges. With a full magazine, the only way I can close the bolt is to use my thumb to push directly on the back of the bolt. I've lightly filed the magazine lips and it has helped a little but I'm still not there. I'm afraid to ruin a $70 magazine. Everyone says these rifles are the best thing since sliced bread but if you do a bit of google-ing it seems most of them have this feeding issue.
 
So after more shooting - 100+ rounds - and a bunch of cycling in my living room, and a thorough clean and lite oil for good measure, it’s cycling mostly fine now. Went out shooting yesterday, fired about 30 rounds of various types and all but one fed ok. A few were tight. It’s getting better with use. Didn’t do any sanding.
 
Sometimes, and my 527m was like this, the extractor has a burr on the inside facing the bolt face. This prevents the rim of the round slipping into the space between the bolt and extractor. I lightly "broke" that edge with a fine needle file, and no more issues. But the magazines need clean up too.
 
My 7.62-39 works excellent with any of my reloads. The only problem was the mag scratching the cases but about 400 to 500 rounds no more scratches. My biggest problem was with my cast load 160gr bullet was shooting low with rear site at its highest. Was going to get the shorter front site then I decided to scope it , problem solved. I have fixed the mags from other people's CZ 'S by smoothing the lip edges. Great rifle easy to carry. CZ is a much better gun than the big US company's. Next best thing to BRNO.
