The more I shoot this little rifle the more I like it. quite some time ago I was having a hard time deciding between a ruger and a CZ. I'm very glad the great and all powerful TODBARTELL talked me into a CZ. with the help of Omineca Source For Sports, this cute little mauser was mine. had a Weaver K6 laying around so thats what it ended up wearing, although a VX1 2-7x33mm is in it's future. the rifle is otherwise untouched, strait out of the box.

and when fed 35gr Vmax over 13grs of Lil'gun the results are rather spectacular for such an old "inherently inacurate" chambering.. ;)

5 rounds each @ 100yrds.

Wow, my old BRNO ZKW465 hornet doesn't shoot that well - you've got an excellent little rifle there! I'm going to have to try that load. I've always used the old 11 grains of 4227 load but I think it's time to get with the times!

Cheers, Don.

It's funny that I do all of my varmint hunting with either a .22-250 or a big game rifle. Then I look at that and I'm reminded of something I've often thought. The Hornet would work perfectly well, it's cool and it would be a lot of fun. It's very nice little rifle that you have there.

this past summer I shot 10 five shot groups back to back to back with my CZ 527 221 Fireball with 40 gr Nosler BT (19.3 grs RL7, 3185 fps) and the smallest .4", the largest 1.25", average was like .65 or something

fifty shots in about 10 minutes! :) accurate guns..too bad yours is in an imp cartridge :p

Just happened to have a K6 scope, from El Passo, Tx, lying around for my old ZKW 465 in 22 Hornet, also. Got rings for it and sighted it in today with some factory ammo that came with it. Waiting for dies, etc.

Hard to go wrong with the CZ - Bartell got that one right. Mine's a 452 Lux, .22WMR and can easily do .500" @ 100 yds with Remington or Winchester Supremes (think they're 32 and 34 grs) running at about 2250 fps. Awesome little guns - built just like the big ones, real lugs and extractors and that "turkish" walnut is real hard stuff.

X2 on the CZ. I just bought a CZ527 in 223 leftie. I just love that "Mini Mauser" action-it just looks so right. The sucker is a tack driver too and when I get finished working up load its gonna be a sweet ride. Got a CZ452 leftie that convinced me to buy the 527. They sure do make a sweet rifle. Had to buy the old lady one cuz she was drooling over mine. She picked up right away that her Cooey 39 was not even in the running. She got tired of that one real quick. Hers is a BRNO CZ468 trainer made in 58 and it is about the classiest single shot bolt I have seen.

It's funny how these little old underpowered nearly forgoten rounds have such a dedicated supporters. Once you get one you will seldom be without at least 1. I have 2 now (Browning bolt & Ruger #3) and have owned many. few guns are more fun in the gopher patch. The bruno I had in Khornet did not feed well & if I want more than hornet has I have other 22cf for that. Thanks for the post, I like to see the little marvel being used. AJ

I have a 527 full stock 22 hornet my load is a small pistol primer, 12.5 grains 296 33grain Speer TNT It shoots .5 inch groups at 100 yards. Have not shot it over crony, but talk to tech. in Speer's lab who told me velocity with 296 runs from 12.4 grains= 3054 fps to12.8 grains= 3217 fps. I met an older gent a few years ago who uses his hornet for deer on the Queen Charlott Islands, one shot kills.

bunny, Very interesting to hear how such a light bullet does so well at 100 yards. Have you tried them out to 200 yards?
As I have stated on here, I am just getting into loading for the Hornet and wondering the best weight bullet for it. I was planning on making it very hazardous for gophers out to 200 yards. Until I read on here of a lot of you peoples experiences, I was thinking of 50 grain bullets, which should hold up better. Then I changed my order, not yet in the computer, to 45 grains, but, maybe lighter?
You people with Hornet experience, what would be the best bullet weight for my stated purposes?

I have one of the little CZ's in the Fireball..I haven't done the 10 group test like Bartel, but I have more than a few groups here under an inch with some under 3/4".......

and remember boys and girls..

"the Fireball is what the Hornet could have been had it stayed in school"....:D

there, fixed it for you ;)

and the Hornet rides the short bus to the gopher patch......:p

I've had CZ's in Hornet and Ackley Hornet......none fed like the FB.....

also had a heavy barrel Ruger M77 and a #3 in Hornets...neat little cartridge......

This summer I went 17 for 18 shots on gophers with the FB and my 81 year old Father In Law was laughing so had he almost fell off his Big Bear.......great fun....."that's one he11uva 22"....was all he could say

Was just given one this morning to figure out why it was all over the map for accuracy. Took 2 minutes to fix. It's an older one, a Brno "Fox" something model. Scope rings were oversized for the scope tube by a hair - simple insert job, a real good cleaning, one fouling shot and presto. 1/2" groups @ 100. Set trigger, too. Slick little gun. Shocking accuracy potential.
