I've been looking for something else besides my SKS to shoot my 7.62 surplus ammo with. So, as luck would have it I have recently acquired (from a great CGN'er I might add) an almost brand spanking new CZ 527 in that very same caliber.

After handling and cuddling with my new possession I can see that CZ has made a very nice product. This little rifle is beautiful. Beautiful bluing, fitting, and beautiful walnut too. The trigger both set and unset is in my opinion excellent. This rifle is so nice I'm not so sure about shooting military ball with it at all. It seems like a waste of a fine rifle to shoot steel cased, gilding metal (or at lest magnetic) bullets through. It seems almost contradictory to make such a fine rifle and post right on the CZ website it is chambered to accept steel case surplus ammo.

How do you folks feel about shooting cheap ammo through it?

If I cannot find a simple polymer stock I'm not sure if I can take it out and use it in the bush. I'll be angry with myself to scratch a nice rifle in perfect condition. Can anyone suggest a place to go for an aftermarket stock? I don't really want to get another wood stock as it will probably increase its weight. Another great attribute to this rifle is how small and light weight it is.

Your constructive comments are most appreciated.

Here she is in all her beauty:

I have not shot steel case through mine but the primers on PMC brass are hard enough the I get failures about every 5 rounds. No issues with federal or privi.

The Hornady Steel Match is great in my friends CZ 527. Also Sellior & Bellot brass 7.62x39 SP shoot the absolute best. My CZ 550 is a regular bush warrior. There is a couple of scratches on it but I don't worry about something so easy to refinish in 20 years down the road. Plastic scratches too man but you can't refinish plastic.

I also want to get one of those and I emphasize with your thinking. A polymer stock for hunting is a great idea, along with good ammo.
For shooting at the range, I can't see how copper washed cases are going to hurt this rifle and you are going to clean it well after shooting anyway.
You may have to put up with a few light strikes on primers and you won't want to use lacquer coated cases because of the sticking in chamber.

Wasn't this gun designed for milsurp rounds? Thought it was all set up for steel case, hard primers.

It's on my want list, almost bought one this year but something else took it's place. Maybe next year.

I bought one for my son (first cf/deer rifle) last fall from a sponsor. Didn't work out so well. Nice rifle, a little rough at first but my son cycled it 1k times- yes he was excited. Loading the mag last two rounds sucks unless you stick your finger on the previous case and force it down, the last few force the ones in the mag to "flip" ass over teakettle and jam. Ok we got by that... Range time woohoo!
Not so much. Test target that came with it showed a reasonable group well centered but low. With a normal sight picture the rifle at 100 was off the bottom of the paper and a bit left. Holding so the front sight was high (like a 22 at 200 yards) got it on paper but tough to see what you are shooting at. Ok, drift the rear, what about the front? No adjustment, like an enfield replace sight blade... Wtf? Ok talk to supplier, lots of nice gestures but in the end they ####e the bed. No resolution as CZ treats Canadian customers like dirt. Supplier is top right on the page. My 12 year old was seriously disappointed, I am still pissed. I will never buy another CZ product ( I have several) and encourage others to stay away. Put a 2-7 on it and shoots 1-3" groups with everything from Chinese "non corrosive" to check, Ukrainian, Romanian, Hornady, whatever.. Easy to swab out, makes shooting my stacks of corrosive fun again cause I really got tired of buckets of dirty water with dozens of parts in them... But it won't be getting any more CZ friends in the safe. Just my 2$.
Oh yeah, buy a spare mag if you can ever find one. I just spent $100 on one including taxes and shipping.

I got one last week and shot about 100 rounds of chinese copperwashed surplus through it. No problems with functioning at all. Plinking at 25 yards with irons was ok, but at 100y poi was about 6-7" low and a bit to the left. So I'll be scoping it. 16mm integrated bases is buII$hit... rings cost about 2 times compare to weaver/picatinny size. I knew about nonadjustable elevation on irons and proprietary dovetail size beforehand so I'm not pissed. Overall I like this rifle. My 11yo likes its recoil better than 91/30's :D

I wish these would come without sights since they don't work anyways.

Just like the zastava, I have heard there is a quality difference between the ones made for the European market and those sourced from the USA market

personally I never worry about scratching a stock of a rifle
They are fairly durable in walnut.
I had one a few years ago and I did not want to shoot corrosive ammo in mine, so I loaded for it using reloder 7 powder with the 123 and 125gr bullets.
Have lots of left over bullets if some one needs them. FS

My rifle does not have CZ-USA, KANZAS stamped on receiver, also guy in the store said it came to Canada directly from Czech Republic.

I really like this CZ in x39 but am holding out for the Howa mini in x39. I'll be running surplus through that one to see what it does.

Not sure who you bought from, but I know with the zastava, Corwin arms was selling the upgraded for surplus ammo ones from Europe up until another site sponsor started selling them for a much lower price because they were sourced differently.

I do not have any experience with the CZ personally (unlike the zastava) but. I have heard some have issues with firing surplus and others dont. Depending on who it was purchased from

Now that I think of it there was an issue with light primer strikes on some of the 527's that I found in my hunt for proper sights. Recall something on the CZ USA sight about replacement firing pin springs. They also sell various sizes of front sights. I imagine all of the above are unubtanium in Canada. Another thing I found is that I rarely use the set trigger, it is crisp but the trigger keeps going back after the break. Reminds me of an old Cooey. I adjusted the normal trigger to a couple of pounds and it is sweet; just make sure to test for u.d. If you go lite...

Older 527 Carbines had some light strike issues with hard primers. Newer ones are marked 527M and supposedly have stronger firing pin springs. I have an 'M' model and have had no trouble shooting Czech surplus, but I use mostly non corrosive steel cased LCW/Dominion or Hornady & PRVI for hunting ammo.

I love my rifle, one of the cheapest to shoot & great accuracy with good ammo. It's a bolt action rifle guys, it can not get any easier to clean after shooting corrosive.

You can get rings from Talley and Warne if you don't want the CZ made ones. I have Warne QD rings on my carbine and they are perfect IMHO.

I have the same rifle and I will eventually let my sons shoot surplus through it, but for now I am reloading Lapua brass cheap enough to make it fun to plink.

I got it from Ellwood Epps. Wonder if there is way to check intended market by serial number or any known differences at all.

Will Warne medium height rings be ok with Nikon prostaff 2-7 on CZ527M or should I look for High?

I had to put High Leupold rings on mine to allow bolt clearance on a 4x Leupold with Butler Creek caps. Only think I don't like is the mag digging into your back with the rifle slung muzzle up.I carry mine muzzle down [tapped]slung on the weak shoulder magazine forward. Hand on forearm it swings across your body into action PDQ.......Harold

I was told by the supplier that the Canadian ones come from Europe and if you're looking for a particular model to look at the home website, not CZ USA. He said they import a lot of barreled actions into the US and stock them themselves so the ones you see on the US site may not look the same as the ones we get. I have a 527 Varmint in 17 Hornet which I have not shot yet but by all accounts is very accurate. The only issue I have is the ring height available. I have CZ mediums with my Leupold 4-12x40 and I could come down 1/4" and still clear the bolt but nobody makes low rings for it. Warne mediums are the lowest but not that much. TC
