Hi Everyone,

I was our with my CZ 527 Carbine chambered in 7.62x39mm and was having some issues with light primer strikes.

I was shooting cheap brass cased Herters Green box Ammunition from Bass Pro. The rounds would fire on the 3rd primer strike. I have never had this issue in my 5 years of owning this rifle. I've used Federal, Prvi Partizan and Even Norinco non-corrosive ammunition and never experienced light primer strikes until now.

I took apart the bolt and everything seemed clean and there was no abnormal wear on any of the parts.

Has anyone else had this issue?

What is the solution?

I read about people using aftermarket Springs to upgrade the weak original CZ spring.

A company called JP Spring in Oregon makes replacement springs, however I think they are unlikely to ship to Canada. I have emailed them and will find out soon.

Any Ideas or suggestions?

I would suspect the ammo first since the issue presented itself with this ammo. Try different ammo for comparison.

Sometimes a piece of primer will come into the bolt thru the FP hole in the front of the bolt. This will usually be a small disc that gets lodged between the front portion of the striker and the bolt body. Remove the striker assembly and rap the rear of the bolt body smartly on a piece of wood, this will usually dislodge any loose piece of primer. Looking thru the bolt body at a light will give you a visual. If this happened numerous times there may be a metal smear on the front portion of the striker where the disc is trapped between striker and bolt body.

"yodave" is a member of these forums and sells springs for your rifle...AND he's right there on Vancouver Island with you! He also has a website that comes up if you search his username with google.

IMG_1415.jpegIMG_1414.jpegMine has the occasional light primer strike on various types of ammo (7.62x39 also).

My firing pin tip will also bend and requires periodical straightening. It helps for a bit until it goes out of true again.
What I suspect with mine is that the firing pin occasionally strikes the opening internally opposite the bolt face. I’m not sure what the anatomical name is for that but its quite square/blunt compared to cross sections I’ve seen on Mausers where they are conical and match the curvature of the firing pin end. There’s dents on this piece when I shine a light inside the bolt tube.

I see you didn’t find any abnormal wear on yours, just curious if you checked firing pin concentricity?
