Hey guys-considering a scope swap, but have always been reluctant to put a 30mm-tubed scope on there, the rifle is more rimfire-sized to me. (Varmint in 17 Hornet) I have some 30mm rings I'd like to repurpose, EGW "Practicals" in 30mm. Been searching for a 1"-tubed scope I'd like for the job/in my budget...but have mostly been striking out. Closing in on a Sightron S-TAC series. Love the SIII on my other varmint gun I use more.
Question-I'm aware of two rail types for 527s, the DIP one that slips onto the dovetails and is held in place by downward-facing grub screws. I've never held these or seen the fasteners involved, but is it safe to assume these damage the finish on top of the receiver? I mean once it's on...it's on, but still.
Other option I just found is the EGW, which clamps on the side;

Final scope height will dictate the rings I choose, but Weaver options far outweigh the dovetail ones if going direct, like I currently am. I believe the ones I bought first (see below) were the Warne ones, I know CZ makes them..I think Leupold too.
Anyhow, just testing the water here and interested in knowing if the DIP rail does mess-up the finish on the receiver. Anyone here using it? Any other options I haven't dug-up but should know about?
