I'm thinking of buying rifle for sporting and potentially hunting purposes. My search is pretty much narrowed down to:

- CZ 550
- Savage Model 14

Both are in .308 WIN
Also, both come in either American (no open sights) or European (with open sights) styles.

Please, your input...
Thanks a lot

Both good rifles. Should be solid, dependable, accurate. Have you looked at both in person? If you can, pick each one up and examine it. Something will probably tip the scale for you. I have to say, I thought the Savage was butt-ugly in photos, but I liked the one I saw in a shop. Either way, you can't lose IMHO. You'll get a good rifle.

I vote CZ even more then.
as for American vs Euro -- I like the Euro hog back stock with open sights as your head is low enough for the iron sights, it is ok for scope use but you will have to hold your head a little higher without a firm cheek weld.

Again - I like this position if you are shooting a harder kicking rifle as i dont like being pushed down against the stock for anything much above a 300 mag - so Im very used to this more upright shooting position that lends itself more to quicker shots at relatively closer ranges.

The american is a lot better for scope use and long range sniping sort of shooting where you can hunker down against the stock and front end rest to aim.

Not personally familiar with the Savage though I hear they are accurate.

My CZ is an accurate and well made rifle. I think the CZ is more rifle for the money.
