I an looking into getting a new rifle and I was looking for people who own either or both of these rifles. If you own both what are the good points of both or bad points on them. The rifles that I am looking at are new so dont suggest that if find a pre-64 model 70 or a old bruno rifle even though they might be of better quality.

the CZ has the original mauser 98 extractor system and inner C-ring breeching. It also has integral scope ring rails, though with a limited selection of rings that look good.

It also has a trigger system that has more parts than an entire Model 70, because it sets, if you find that of any use on a big game rifle.

The model 70, having a round top receiver, gives you more options with base and rings, if that matters to you. It also has a simpler trigger mechanism.

probably the biggest difference between the two rifle is European vs american styling.

For me, it would depend a lot on the caliber choice. 30-06/270 = Winchester Featherweight. 7x57 or 9.3x62 = CZ.........

Both great rifles , I prefered the trigger on the m 70 . & if you opt for the CZ I would suggest the American style over the LUX due to the drop in the comb & the high ring's . I have a short neck so it may not bother you

I have a Model 70 post 94 Classic and a 550, both great rifles.

I feel the pre 08 trigger has a leg up over the post 08 trigger. The old Model 70 Winchester trigger was probably the best and simplest trigger ever. The new one is fine and breaks cleanly but is set much too heavy at the factory and is not as simple to adjust. Other than that what I have seen of the post 08's is very, very good. One of my hunting partners bought one this year, and once we got the trigger set up was shooting ragged holes at 100 meters off a bench - what's not to like!

My CZ out of the box was a shooter, well made, nice iron sights, and the beautiful classic and robust improved 98 action. It comes with a single set trigger which is fine but it breaks like a green branch when not in the fine set mode. The action was sticky out of the box and I had to set down for an afternoon working it to get it smooth. It is fine now and a joy to shoot.

The issues I've described with both are trivial really and from my experience they are both fine rifles. Your best bet is to go to a store that stocks both and handle both to see what feels best to you. If you are like me and they both feel great you will just have to buy both.:)
