Just bought a CZ 550 Medium Standard in 300 Win Mag today. Anybody else who has one of these rifles, What would you recomend for a deer load? Also what would you recomend for a scope? How do you like this rifle?:)

165 Nosler Partitions. Not that you particularly need that tough a bullet for deer, but it's a nice happy medium for when (not if) you decide to go after Moose or Elk.

I've used 150gr Ballistic Tips on Blacktail deer, and 180gr Ballistic tips on Mulies. I've also used 220gr Nosler Partitions, and that is my favorite load. Mind you, I often was hunting Elk or Moose, and deer was an added bonus. If I were chasing only deer, I'd stick with 180gr Accubonds. They fly flat, hit hard (I've used them in my 7mm RM on deer) and buck the wind well. They are also economical, so you can practice lots. I used RL22 when loading 180gr Ballistic Tips.

edit: Scope will depend on how much money you want to spend. On the low end I would say a Weaver K4 or K6 would do just fine. They can be had for under $200 and are a very good value. On the high end I like Schmidt & Bender scopes, but they are very pricey! There are lots of good choices in between. What terrain will you be hunting in?

No experience with the 300 mag but my 550 in 375 is a darn fine rifle!!!

I have been looking at the 550 in 375 for the past month or so. Actually very interested in getting one. I have not heard that much about them, so you like yours machinistbutler? The bolt feels very rough, but I am sure it smooths out with time.

I wouldnt mind hearing a bit more from you machinistbutler, if you have some time shoot me a PM so we dont clog up this post.

Sorry Helmet head :D
