WooHoo!!! I finally got a 458 WM....Its a very nice CZ 602
I've had trouble with some bunnies eatting the trees I planted....And it seems that clubbing cute furry critters is frowned upon:rolleyes:

Soooo.....I have the perfect bunny stopper:D

And if a stray pachyderm or two should happen to stroll by....I'll be ready for them too;)

Russ...

Not much to tell......I have been bugging an old friend for it for sometime now....We finally hashed out a deal...over a few whisky's and scotch....It cost me a couple rifles and two pistols....but pound for pound I think we both did alright:)
Here she is:

Just have to find some ammo.....Can you believe....Nobody in Winnipeg stocks ammo for this fine bunny gun:rolleyes:

Oh....BTW..I had to stand on my tippy toes to get the whole thing in the picture...as you can see.

With proper bullet choice...careful bullet placement...and if the plate steel that the bear is hiding behind isn''t more that 3/4" thick....the 458wm should be adequate....

I bounced a big black bear with my Brno 602 a few years ago.
It made a wound channel that we could pass a broom handle thru!
No complaints whatsoever from the bear.

:D

Nice, very nice! Bunny gun, eh? Should be almost enough gun for grouse hunting aswell... although shot placement will be key to ensure a clean kill.

Welcome to the 602 club. You will have alot of fun with that rifle. Do yourself a favour and forget about buying factory ammo, get some bulk brass from Wholesale or Russels, and you can make some inexpensive fun-ammo loading 405 gr Remington bulk bullets...although for the bunnies maybe you should use Barnes 500 gr banded solids.

Looks like a nice rifle Boomer..........Browning used to make 458 Win mags popular in the 70s, bulit on a sporter mauser that was way too light.
I find with these heavy kickers that you must have a rifle with adequate weight, or you will develop a "heavy case of flinchitis."
Which can be down right dangerous to your health and others.

Brno .458wm

Hi Russ;
The picture of yours looks just like mine.;) Mine is a ZKK 602, is yours actually a Cz 602? If so, a different model designation I guess? I find mine a little easier to handle, recoil wise,:) than my model 70. When the wife asked why I needed 'elephant' guns, I told her I was planning on homesteading and they'd come in handy for clearing land.:p
The front sights are easily changed out and as mine is shooting a little high, I was going to get a taller one. Inquiries to Bashaw Sports Centre, also P&D Enterprises in Alberta, can apparently get that item. Also, they have Brno scope rings in stock so I'll check the next time I'm out that way. In the meantime what I've tried is I've added a fibre optic bead to the top of existing sight. Nothing to do now but try it.:)
For commercial bullets I'll go by the manufacturers manuals for the most part. I'm in the process of 'playing' with some cast bullet loads, just for kicks. Probably eventually end up leaving the cast bullets for the .45-70. Would like to hear how you make out with yours.:D

No...mine is not a CZ....Its a Brno ZKK 602.....just like yours......I have a bad habit of calling it a CZ:rolleyes:

Was out shooting it the other day......Was no fun though......Every time I hit the gong, it knocked it ass over tea kettle and I had to walk 200 yards to set it back up again:p

Was shooting Winchester 510gr SP's.....recoil was not bad at all......My 340 weatherby is worse.....

It's going to make the perfect bunny blaster:)

To your credit, you spelled Brno correctly.

Just remember, the "U" is silent, just like the number 7 in the word Dog.;)

Where your boots the clincher for the deal!:D

Nice gun should be able to stop a bunny but will requie a scope I would think

On CZ and Bruno guns there is usally a date at least the year the gun was proofed with the proof marks

Brno manf. date.

On my Brno ZKK 602, .458wm, on the action and the barrel on the left side, there appears to be a proof mark and a 92 marked on both. I assume that is made in 92 then? I haven't taken the action out of the stock yet, too busy getting rid of 'cobwebs'. Was out today testing some cast bullet loads. Planning on mounting a Leupold 1x4 Vari-XII.

i have a win mod 70 in 458 and found it hard to get ammo in my area and what factory ammo was available was way to powerful for white tail deer and expensive. i reload so i made up 300 rds of 400gr fp moving about 2000fps. nice recoil and accurate to 100 yds. factory ammo kills on both ends of the gun when you shoot that stuff. i have a scope on my rifle and had to put a rubber cap on it to keep it from cutting me over the eye.
