Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase my very first semi-automatic pistol and after doing some research and handling various pistols at the local retailer, I have really taken a shine to the CZ 75 BD Police 9mm. This is a beautiful gun with lots of character and the quality is in the manufacturing under CZ. However, keeping that in mind these can run anywhere between 900 and 1200 dollars so I want to make sure I won't be disappointed. I am also a left handed shooter. Has anyone had the pleasure of firing this pistol or simply a CZ 75BD that could give me some of their thoughts or comments? Any feedback would be great. Cheers.

That is a great choice imo, for the reasons you've stated. 900 to 1200 seems pricey to me though unless NIB. I'm thinking $6-800 would get you a lightly used one.

The entire CZ75/85 line up has been around in all its variations for over 40 years. They remain one of the most popular DA/SA guns in the Canadian market used in all forms of pistol competitions. Parts are plentiful.
Some models have a weak slide stop that are known to break with heavy use.
They are renowned for ergonomics and above average trigger pulls esp. in SA. The low bore axis with the inset slide helps with follow up shots and recoil. The multiple copies of the CZ design testifies to the longevity of the platform.
As long as you, as a lefty, can work all the controls easily, then by all means, buy the gun!
As gdawg says, the price you say is a bit steep. For that amount, you could get a used SP-01 which is just the cat's meow!

I shoot one and love it. Classic look. I've added night sights to mine. Bought it on the ee for a good price last year. I'd like to add an sp01 or a tactical sport to my collection though.

I'd rather have the plain B model with a safety instead of the decocker. I bought mine about 10 years ago for $600. Has only had one fail to fire, which went off on the second trigger pull. Great pistol, you'll love it!

As a lefty you might have issues with the decocker being on the left side of the frame. You can get the 85 Combat with safety controls on the right side of the frame. The guns mechanically are, with the exception of the decocker vs manual safety identical. The 85 Combat does not have the FPB. You cannot go wrong with any of the CZ's. You won't be disappointed. Not sure I would be paying anything neear $1K for the BD Police model though. Seems high to me.

Take Care

Bob

Thanks for the input everyone. I will keep an eye out for something in the price range you mentioned for sure as well as look at the EE. I was originally leaning towards a Walther P1 as I love the history behind those pistols and the nostalgic look however after reading some posts about how inaccurate they are I'm leaning towards a modern semi with some old school character and I obviously don't want to cheap out either on my first purchase. I appreciate the feedback . Cheers

You sound like you like classic (and classy!) guns.
Other than the regular 1911s, Browning HP, Beretta 92 series, CZ75/85, why not save a bit more and look into a HK P7/PSP?
They are classic, not made anymore, super well made, rare and, best of all, completely ambidextrous! And, with the Nils wood grips, absolutely gorgeous!
