Hi all,

Figured I'd see what other SP01 users are experiencing out there...

I have two SP01s, 1 Tactical and 1 regular; the regular has the CZ-USA hammer and 15lb mainspring. I've experimented with 11lb and 14lb recoil springs... I just recently put in the extra strengh cz-usa extractor springs, so see what effect they would have.

The only issue I had with either of them were stove pipes when shooting Wolf FMJ. After the new extractor springs, that problem almost completely went away, but not 100%. Recently I've seen a return of an old friend - mags not dropping, next-round-in-line getting pushed too far forward during cycling, so if I try to drop the mag, it gets stuck in the mag well. I'm using Tanfoglio mags, mostly. I haven't used the baby eagle or the factory CZ 10 rounders in those guns, so I don't know if the problem will also exist there...

About the same time as the extra power extract springs went in, I started to notice that if I try to load a full magazine, the slide can't push the 10th round all the way in - I need to give it a bit of a tap to close all the way. I have seen others do it in matches with this gun, so this can't be just me. If I load using a stripper mag, no problem, but after the first shot, the slide skips a bit, when loading the top round from the 10 round mag in the gun - it doesn't stop, like when loading manually, but there is a hickup there...
I'm GUESSING that because of the angle that the round has to go in, and with a full mag it can't depress the next round anymore, so it might need to push the extractor a bit to feed properly, and with the ultra strong extractor spring, that isn't happening - so it gets hung up... I might have to go back to regular extractor springs, but then Wolf stovepipes increase in frequency, regardless of the recoil spring strenght...

So, my MAIN issue: mags not dropping free (using Tanfoglio mags)
Secondary: that hickup when loading the top round of a 10 round mag...

I'd be curious to hear comments from people using the SP01 19 round mags (pinned, of course) - how do they behave? Also from those using the regular CZ 10 round mags... Anyone using baby eagle mags in the SP01?

Thanks!

Hi omen, I am using a 14# recoil spring, 15# main spring and factory CZ 10 round mags in my SP-01. No trigger work and the hammer is stock. I have fired almost 3400 rounds of mostly Winchester white box 115gr with zero problems. I have tried 124gr and 147gr Winchester and Federal 115gr rounds also with no problems. The only other mag I have tried in my pistol are K-Mag from South Africa (17 rounds) that are pinned to 10 rounds. The K-Mags works fine in the SP-01 and my CZ 75BD. Black gun of PD. Vince Pinto says its legal...

My SP01 that I use for IPSC PD. I have'nt put on all the options that are PD legal but I think the pistol is a solid performer as is.

The sights were changed to the fiber optic and comp. rear. As you can tell, I do all my own work. Hey its a CZ - I can beat it up and not really worry about scratching up that 2k pistol. The sights are set up just right for 147gn loads. I loaded some 124gn at about 135pf and was hittting much lower than expected. I guess I'll stay with 147. The fibre likes to dissapear once in a while. To the point I carry some fibre in my bag with a lighter for a quick install.

CZ cocobolo grips are for looks. Same profile but almost too thin. Will go back to regular grips after next match. Want to get used to a larger grip for my next pistol which will be a wide body S_I. The grip tape helps if anyone hasnt tried it yet.

I went threw three trigger springs in about six months until I ordered one from Angus and never had a problem since. I have owned the pistol (my first) for almost a year now. Went to a 15lb main right away. Cannot use CCI with this spring lb - beware. I use an 11lb recoil for my puff loads. I try to use a 14lb for factory ammo loads but I am often lazy. Busted my original slide stop by using too hot factory loads which was too bad as it really stuck out from the pistol. So much that I used it as a thumb rest to combat some recoil. You always hear someone saying the recoil is nonexistent with this pistol. It is made out of steel. Funny those making comments are almost always plastic users.

Have not put on the fancy 85 trigger stop or the fancy extended safety that are both PD legal but as I mentioned earlier, I dont really think I need to.

All in all the SP01 is a good pistol. Never really had the no-drop mag problem I have heard about. So that is not an issue for me. I recieved some SP01 mags recently and have not had them long enough to give a range report. Use CR speed belt and pouchs along with DOH holster for this pistol, it's a good setup for me.

Curious to hear other peoples experiences with the black gun of pd.

I found that I can reproduce the mag not dropping issue pretty reliably. Charge up a full mag, load it, and fire 5-6 rounds really rapid fire. Then try to drop the mag. at least 1 out of 3 times it doesn't drop, using CZ or baby eagle mags. The trick appears to be in shooting really fast - when I do slower fire, it seems fine, but if I'm simulating shooting at a 3 target array point blank (for example), that's when it happens very consistently. Not with Tanfoglio mags...

I was shooting both Wolf FMJ and Winchester factory (tested this just today)... Donno... getting more Tanfoglio mags, I guess ;)

Omen, polish the part of the slide that rides along the top round in the mag. Just make sure there are no rough spots.
