On the CZ 75b I have sitting in front of me (two tone 9mm), the mags are not drop free (hitting the mag release drops the mag about an inch but the mag must then be manually pulled). It seems that the magazine brake in the rear of the grip is preventing the mags from dropping free (go figure  ). Now, can I fix this by straightening out the mag break myself with some pliers ? Are flat mag brakes easily accessible in Canada ? If I bend the curved mag brake, does that, in theory, disqualify the gun from IPSC Production ?

Someone told me once that there was a screw to remove that would let the mags drop free. Don't quote me on that. One of the resident CZ experts could tell you, or check out the CZ forum.

There is a flat spring in the mag well. remove this and save for future use and the mags will drop free.

I was told there has to be a flat mag brake installed in lieu of the curved one else I could damage something in the gun (mainspring or something ?).

I have a pre-B CZ-75 which I was using to shoot Std in IPSC before there was production. The mag break spring was completely removed from it, and I never had any problems. I guess you could worry about the top of the mag caching on the hammer spring if you insert the mag at just the right ("wrong") angle, but it didn't seem to happen to me.

ideally take that spring out, bend it straight, and put it back in. The fact that it's not dropping the mags now is a factory design (WAD: works as designed). That's what you want for LE stuff, so you don't accidently lose your msg.

Let's put it this way, someday as the CZ 75 works in, that mag break "wears out" and mags will fall on thier own.
If yours happens to "wear early", ;) or have a "faulty" (ie. flat) spring ;) ;) then it's still valid for production as normal wear is not an issue.

Removing the flat spring would invalidate the gun for production.
I also agree with Omen, I'd keep it in to leave a smooth surface in the back of the gun - just in case that wrong angle occurred on a fast mag insertion.
