Took mine to the range for the first time today, only to confirm, what I already knew, I suck with irons. I'd get decent groups 3-4 inches, just not always in the same place, as I wasn't always holding the sight picture exactly the same every time. I guess I really should practice, and get better with the irons, but if I decide, screw it, go for optics, what mount should I use. Anyone using the Weaver scope mount from Wolverine? How does it compare to the NEA handguard? What kind of Optic are people using?

Also, how are the muzzle break, and recoil reducing stock, at reducing recoil? Considering that I don't mind 300WM, in my fairly light Stevens 200, I find the 858 to be a little unpleasant. I'm not bruised from 240 rounds, but it was getting a little tiresome near the end of the shooting day. I guess I rarely get over 20-30 rounds in a day with the 300WM, and typically shoot 30-40 rounds through the CZ per time picking it up.

With the irons, I found the 200 setting to work at 200, a lot better than I found the 100 at 100. I don't know if it's just me (could very well be), or something with the ammo, sight or rifle. Shooting good ole surp ammo from the crate, made 3 years before I was born. Cleaning it was a LOT easier than I anticipated. Let it sit with some bore foam, then a bit of brushing, and had patches that were as white on the far side as the near side. The whole works come apart and go together, probably easier than any other firearm I currently own (last gun I took apart for cleaning, spent 4 days sitting in pieces).

I got the military muzzle brake with the fab recoil reducing stock and a 10" x 10" gong @ 200 meters, I can hit all day long with my bushnell holosight and 4x magnifier. If you can hit the bullseye at 25 meter's a 10" x 10" gong @ 200 meters should be the same. As the bullet drop will match up perfectly. As for recoil 300 rounds in one shooting day and it would feel like you were just shooting a 22.

A muzzle brake is a good idea. The long military style one is my personal favorite. Avoid the AKM slant brake; the compensation is way too aggressive for the longer barrel on the CZ.

A word in the CZ858-2 iron sights.
They are exactly the same as the sights on the standard length VZ. The practical upshot being that the sight radius is too long. So only the distance you zero at is going to work 100% properly.

Being zero'd at 100 I have to use incrementally greater hold-overs to hit the target at increasing distances.

In terms of a Fig.12
100m: aim at the V
200m: aim at the forehead
300m: aim just above the top of the helmet
400m: aim roughly half way between helmet and top of panel
500m: aim at the top of the target panel

I hope this helps.
Other than that you need to start shooting at least 100 rounds every time you break out that bad dog or it'll get pissy that you're neglecting it. ;)
