A friend and I were out shooting our 858's when I noticed our front sights were different. Mine was open at the top and his was closed. We started to inspect the rifles more closely and noticed that mine was a 858-2V and his was a 858-2P (the S/N are close to each other). The only difference seems to be the front sight (as mentioned above) bayonette mount was a bit shorter on the -2P and my factory bi-pod would fit but not lock.
Anyone else notice this and is there any other differences?
I assumed it was just a different casting of the front sight but the -2P &-2V made me wonder...

Factory Issued Model designations on the 858 are as such:

858-2 = Non restricted
P=Factory fixed stock
V=Factory folding stock

Please note though that all rifles are registered as CZ858-2P, as the folding/fixed stock bears no relevance on the classification of the firearm as it's built.

The difference in any other parts are the nature of the firearm builds. All the CZ 858's coming into Canada from Wolverine Supplies are built using N.O.S. (New, Old Stock) parts, so there may be slight differences between rifles, such as the case with the front sight hoods as you have mentioned.
