CZ-858 Barrel cleaning

i left mine in a waterlogged wet floored tent over a weekend shooting corrosive ammo with enough moisture in the air to make your pants stick to your legs.

didnt see any rust.
 
corrosive ammo was causing rust to build up in my sksD action after only 24 hours....(they have a chrome barrel)....i wouldnt leave a non-chromed barrel go without cleaning very long.

That's nuts!:eek: I just got one, and have yet to take it out. Is this what I should be expecting???
 
The Corrosive Czech ammo is worse for the barrel/gas system but if you clean it thoroughly after using it it'll be fine.

I thoroughly clean any rifle I use, EVERY time I use it, regardless of whether or not the ammo used is corrosive. Even if there are pressing matters that prevent me from doing so immediately I always get to it ASAP.
 
Corrosive ammo requires extra attention to cleaning right after you shoot it. It doesn't matter if you have a 58 or an 858 barrel, you really should clean it right away.

Personally, I usually use hot (not boiling) soapy water and reef up and down with the brush in the rifle kit. Works good!
 
What if the Czech army had gone to war, would their rifles have rusted to nothing after a few days of engagement if they had lost their cleaning kits?

I want to know if anybody knows of a method of cleaning the barrel without the aid of a bore brush or oil. Scenario is out hiking and hunting and forgot the cleaning kit.
 
If you are out in the bush and don't have a cleaning kit...

...Clean it with water. Run a strip of cloth through it(think spare T-Shirt) as a swab, you could even use a shoe lace with some cloth tied to the end as a makeshift bore snake. The rest of the shirt can be used to clean the gas system.

Dry well with your extra underwear and or socks.

Not a perfect solution but it would work in a pinch.:D
 
In the bush just piss down the barrel if you have no cleaning kit and have been using corrosive ammo. The urine will wash out the corrosive salts and keep the bore from rusting.
 
after shooting at the range with corrosive i always poured some windex down the barrel before bringing it home. then when i got home i gave the gun a good scrub down with hot water/windex....then the usual cleaning procedures.
 
I first take it apart and clean everything well with g96 cleaner.. then pour some windex in the barrel and run some pads through it, finish with some more g96 and put her away... i usually check the barrel a day or two later to see if any rust spots pop up as when i first learned to clean it the back end of the barrel has a bigger opaning then the front of the barrel and saw rust forming there once.

IF the Czech army had gone to war it would have been the first responsibility of each soldier to ensure his/her weapon was clean and in serviceable condition at all times, regardless of any other factor (like sleep or food). Each soldier would be issued a cleaning kit for the purpose of weapon maintenance, if lost cleaning kits are replaced, or shared if there is no other option. Armies everywhere are somewhat lacking in understanding for non-serviceable/dirty weapons.

As was mentioned, urine will wash out the corrosive salts. It's the Ammonia in the pee that does the trick. I keep a small squeege pump of window cleaner in my VZ58 carry case at all times.

While this is very true...somehow I get the feeling some people are interpreting this as 'open the action, aim your johnson down the barrel and hope you don't trip the bolt catch...' :p
 
man sometimes this place is NUTZ, piss on my gun? that will ruin my interpretation of it and i would have to sell it, it would alway be called the pee pee gun!
