Cz 858 Barrel Corrosion

So, I have a cz 858 that has fired corrosive ammo and it looks as if the barrel has some corrosion. what are my options at this point? shoot away and not worry about it? Replace the barrel, is that an option? let me know what I can do here. Will I experience a loss of accuracy? Is the gun toast?

Just shoot the damned thing, it'll be fine.

Just remember to clean it properly next time!

I pour boiling water down the barrel, then use Hoppe's #9 to clean it.

The purpose of the hot water is to dissolve the salts that the corrosive primers leave behind. Those salts are what cause the corrosion.

Unfortunately for lazy people :)p) the CZ858 barrel (in NR config) is not chrome-lined.
 
clean the barrel run some boiling water down it and then oil the bore

run boiling water after you fire it with corrosive ammo and then follow up with a cleaning with this gun take off the handgaurd and put the whole end of the barrel in the water (after its been striped) this will take care of the gas block too i do this with my sks's. remeber these guns were crude a simple kit was given boiling water was to be used and it works well think with a eastern bloc mindset when dealing with eastern bloc guns
 
Your cleaning will take a lot longer now with the pitting. Those pits harbour untold troves of fouling. Yours to discover for hours and even days depending how bad it is and how clean you want your patches coming out. The easiest solution is foaming bore cleaner. Wipeout is great and has an excellent corrosion inhibitor. I just fill the barrel and use the excess to clean the other parts. Don't worry about the gas block, its stainless so you don't even have to clean it if you don't want to. I let it sit over night with wipeout then run a couple dry patches the next day. All powder and copper fouling is removed layer by layer without any work then patch out the mess. It leaves a corrosion inhibitor behind so you don't need to run an oiled patch down the bore.

he said nothing of pitting for all we know it may have just started with the light powder rust

I know some cleaners arent safe to let it sit in the bore for long periods of time but is wipeout good for that?????
 
Yep its one of the few that are completely safe to leave in. It keeps working up to 36 hours and can be left longer. Just don't let it sit too long...its bad. I had some run into the mag and bolt recesses and turn into a sticky gummy mess that was a b**tch to remove. I can't remember what finally took it off but most cleaners couldn't touch it.

i also use the wipe out foaming bore cleaner. great stuff and seems to clean up after corrosive nicely. thousand of rounds of corrosive through my rifles and only used wipeout and g96 never used water.
 
I've been told that the boiling water technique is something that the British used to do when they used black powder. Most armies that use corrosive ammo don't use boiling water - they just clean and lube as usual. I think you'll find the entire ex Com Bloc do not use boiling water.
