I am looking to buy a cheek rest for my CZ858 I have a side mount with an Aimpoint Pro on it and I love it but would be nice to get about a 1-2" rise on it. Any suggestions? It is a beaver barf fixed stock.
On mine, I put an RDS (Sig Romeo 5) on a railed upper hand guard, and it made for a bit of an awkward chin weld. I put the side folder wire stock on it, and then made a cheek rest out of some scrap oak I had, stained it, and clamped it on with a couple of brass Chicago bolts.
The end result is pretty slick looking (I think), and very effective/comfortable to shoot.
It's much easier to make a cheek rest and clamp it to the wire stock than to the beaver barf.
You can see in this vid I made testing out some muzzle brakes, that I end up with a really good height for a cheek weld.
Just way easier to manipulate than the factory safety. Wouldn't even think of going back.
I also have a NEIT (NEA before they sucked) bolt release you can work with your trigger finger. No longer in production, but you can find them on the EE every now and then, And an ambi mag release I got from... Hmm, can't remember, actually.
The Ambi mag release and a bolt release are "must have" upgrades. Because I got mine from two different sources, there was a bit of filing and fitting to get it so they didn't interfere with each other. But there are a couple of outfits that now sell "matching" ambi bolt and mag releases that don't get in the way of each other.
Thanks! My riser made the folder a lot more comfortable overall. Out of the box, the wire folder is a bit of a tooth-rattler. The wooden cheek rest spreads out the bearing surface on your face a lot, and I made it nice and rounded (I spent a couple of days shaping and test fitting it to get it right). The end result is the wire folder is as comfortable now as the wood or beaver barf stocks. I did loctite the crap out of the stock bolt for the wire folder, otherwise it works loose over time.
