I am looking for any advice to a problem that I am having with my Cz 858. I have put about 500 rounds down the pipe and the gun has functioned very well except for this one problem. On two occasions an empty shell has failed to be extracted from the barrel. The shells were jammed in there pretty good and I had to knock them out with a cleaning rod. The extractor litterally ripped a small chunk off of the back of the shell yet failed to extract. I am very pleased with all other aspects of the gun except for this problem. I use mil surp ammo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

I have had this exact same issue from a time to time with my 858 as well, and I discussed it on the board here with the guys. I thought it was the casings expanding and getting stuck in the chamber.

The general consensus, however, (and I now agree with this) is that it is a build-up from the lacquered mil-surp casings that is not being removed.

If you look into your barrel from the receiver end you will probably be able to see some kind of build up (a black ring of gunk) right where the cartridges headspace. For some weird reason when they get stuck they are damn near impossible to pull out from the back, but tap out quite easily from the front with a cleaning rod.

To fix it you need to use that big brush that comes with it, or get some other kind of big brush - like one for a shotgun or an AR-15 chamber brush or something like that - and brush the snot out of that chamber.

Other guys reading this - any solvents work particularly well on the lacquer crap? I use wipe-out to clean most barrels, and I don't think it is effective against this problem.

Try and find a M14 brass chamber brush and go to the paint store and buy some lacquer thinner. Scrub clean the chamber & then clean the rest of the rifle like normal.

Once this is done try some JB bore cleaner & bright to help this from happening less frequently. Also time from time ensure that your spring on the extractor has not been broken.
