I switched powders to higginson powder`s surplus h335 with 160 grain cast bullets. Shooting off the bags the gremlin showed up on the first shot and then again on the 4th.

I can make the gremlin appear when I ride the bolt slow and force it close on this 858. If it slams forward under spring tension, then there is no gremlin. Hmm it thought. Well maybe there is not enough port pressure to send the bolt flying back.

H335 is a pretty slow powder. I could not safely increase the charge as I was pretty close to max. HMMM

So I held the 858 very tight to the shoulder to limit the amount of recoil that I was sucking up. I fired it and it cycled properly. I did it again and it cycled properly again. I did it again 125 times more and it cycled properly everytime.

This is getting me to thinking that my 858 gremlin maybe a little like limp wristing an automatic pistol.

No because its gas operated not Recoil operated

Unimportant, the effect is pretty much the same.

Dsiwy, keep in mind your running reloads that are way out of the spec the gun was designed to shoot. Watch out for overpressure.

Disagree there

On gas operated weapons the gun is beening cycled by the force of the gasses pushing on the piston, there for cycling the action. If you limp wrist it the gases will still be pushing on the piston and still cycle the bolt. Have you ever heard of bump firing??? It does not jam then and your barely holding the gun.

On a recoil operated gun, if you buffer it too much from ether your wrist or like a 50 BMG on a buffer mount. you will loose some of your recoiling forces which are used to cycle the action. there for cuasing the gun to short stroke.

Sound like the normal gremlin trigger problem, I had the same issue with mine.
When I snapped the trigger it worked fine, but if I followed through it jammed.

Also if there was a gas problem or the bolt was not cycling all the way back, Why would it feed and chamber another round?

Sounds like it is the disconnector or sear spring to me

I have the gremlin issue... Last year I tried to tune it out according to the VZ faq by filing on the sear etc and it didn't do anything....

I heard that you need a new bolt to cure the problem, so if you have it I'd worry less about powders and try and fix the real mechanical issue.

your fix is that

Seems like to pervent the dissconector from rebounding and not releasing the sear to catch the striker.

Good fix I think

Who can I send my bolt to in order to have this done?

It's a real shame, I re-painted my rifle, bought a red dot for it, folding stock, 8 mags, and a real nice muzzle break and 1 in every 5 shots or so, she doesn't fire... It's embarrassing :D
I took it out only once...
