I can't seem to figure out how to clean my CZ mags. The follower doesn't go past the magazine 5rd pin so it won't drop out so I can stick a brush in there.

Just pick up a cheap pop riveter and some rivets from Princess Auto or other dirt merchant tool shops. Then just drill the rivet out, clean, reassemble and re-pin the mag.

Is there a way to remove the rivet for good and block the mag to 5 rounds instead of riveting it again.

There might be.

Here is what I found on the RCMP's website :

A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.

I have searched for the list of acceptable ways but couldn't find it. Anyone care to help?

The only way to "pin" a mag so that it's easy to clean is to permanently affix a rod to the follower so that the rod bottoms out at 5 rounds. The risk is that if the rod detaches, or breaks, you're done.

The other ways they suggested included lancing the mag and deforming the mag body.

I have 10/17 glock mags that are blocked instead of pinned, but I have never taken them apart to see how they are block. What would be the difference between these and the 858 mags being blocked? The Glock mags are from Sporteque.

just remove the base plate and do your best .

As already said, and squirt some wd40- or such and wipe it down with a towel or something as best as can be. Should be fine.

I too have removed the pin and disassemble and re-pinned it but in some cases the pins are to big and restrict the mag even more. Learn from my lesson and get the right size rivet before doing anything.

Could you not affix some sort of plug to the base plate that would act similar to the plug in a pump shotgun tubular magazine? My Benelli Supernova has an orange plastic stick that just slides in to restrict the capacity.

Not permanent enough. One could just get another base plate.

Tapco AR mags have a plastic extension that is molded to the base plate, blocking the mag to 5 rounds. So maybe if you somehow "permanently" attatched some kind of blocking mechanisim to the base plate?

One can also just drill out a rivet, doesn't mean its not considered permanent.

Someone really has to dig up the list of acceptable ways to pin a mag in the regulations. Its the only way we can know for sure whats permitted.

has to be permaint... ie non removeable... so if the follower had a pin on the bottom that would be fine ie glued on... the mag laws are so stupid in canada.... just permant doesn't say how or whats legal or not so it's confuseing if you call and ask they just tell you to look at the law and you go ummmm.... so now what...

Now.... there is a company in Quebec that sells glock magazines with a plastic block inside and the RCMP sent them a letter saying this is legal because you need a Glock tool to take the magazine apart.....

I was like wtf I can use a punch... and taday no plastic block.... they claim its legal and they were told by the RCMP in writeing that it's fine...

You have to be very careful with the magazine laws in Canada...

I would just buy the magazine converter drill a hole and install it so I can use XCR pistol magazines... wolverine sells them... Then dump the orginal magazines since you now have 10 instead of 5 legally...

Has anyone used an ultrasonic cleaner to clean their mags? I figured that would do the trick, just take off the baseplate and give'er. I could be wrong, so that's why I phrased this as a question

I took the baseplate of one of my 858 mags and the spring is packed with grease. I guess I should clean my mags also. I noticed Canada Ammo sell 3 different size rivets for pinning mags, so I think I will take them apart and reinstall rivets after.
