CZ-858 in trunk

yeah cause god knows what the theif would do with a "super duper assault AK47 machine swat terrorist gun with super uber duber capacity clips" that will instantly kill all babies within 3 square miles ( that would be the news headline when it gets jacked) .... if you really want a car-gun dont use the 858 although it is a awesome rifle

I dont think you can exactly carry a non restricted firearm in your trunk all year long.. dont you need a purpose for it? I mean if its hunting season and you have your license thats fine, but... lets say in middle of march, hunting season is over.. wouldn the cops ask a few questions and do what they possibly can to confiscate your..

it's not healthy for the gun, even if it was legal- there's too drastic temperature changes, dust, rust, and dirt, plus condensation-

Is it ok to keep your CZ-858 in the back of your car as in always?

That's a seriously strange question for someone to ask, especially given you've been a member here for over 2 years...and have 1000 posts. Why would a person need a gun in their car always? As soon as that car gets stolen or broken into it'll be all over the headlines, and provide the anti's with more ammo to use against the rest of us. Please store your firearms responsibly.

Mind you, I cant see where your living... so if your in Iraq, that's and excellent gun for your car. :)

Not strange at all. I am simply looking into the legality of it. Perhaps I should have stated this at the beginning.
Canada has some very strange laws regarding personally owned firearms. In the US they are regarded as tools for hunting, self-defence or as sports equipment.

I am sure it is legal though I wanted to know what the general consensus was.
This Fall I intend to hunt after work (CF). I cannot take the rifle into the shacks. The MP's will no longer store members firearms as they haven't the room and the CQ cannot give me access to the carbine at my leasure. PMQ's ?There is not a problem but not so in the shacks.

Well ok, Lots of people store their non restricted's in their trunks during work hours so they can go out after work.

I just read your question the same way Tstar read it, in that you wanted to chuck it in the trunk and leave it there indefinitely. Some of the LEO's go an extra mile with their's and bolt a locking steel box into the trunk, then lock it up inside that. Of course that's for restricted's, but you'll probably be more at ease during work; knowing it would take allot of time and effort to get your CZ out by a possible thief.

What is so strange about it?

Loads of people have "truck guns" that live in their vehicle 24/7. In fact there have been several threads here on that very subject.

Hi there officer (daytime), I am on my way to the gun range /crown land to go shooting

or

Hi there Officer (night time) I am on my way back from gun range /crown land from shooting

oh ya I almost forgot here is the pamflet from the CFC/RCMP regaurding transportation of a non restricted firearm

I might be wrong , But I dont think there is any law restricting a licenced owner from having a non restricted firearm in there vehicle at any time , I dont beleive there is a law stating you need a reason why you have it as well
like I said I could be wrong

As you know, non-restricted are non-restricted.
Check your respective provincial statutes (E.G.: wildlife regulations).
Use both dessicant and a quality rust protectant product. Inspect frequently.
Consider something like the steel box that ViktorF mentioned.

And, most important: Don't ask, don't tell.

BCBoy, I heard from my father that apparently in BC a man got caught with a registered .50cal in his trunk. They confiscated the gun and gave him backhis ammo, and from what my father heard (he caught the news at the last minute) they are trying to charge him but the firearm IS non-restricted. So what i think is that, if your rifle looks mean,(or just plain cool) they will be the *big brother* and do what they can.. :(
correct me if I am wrong, i have googled it but have failed to find any info on that particular arrest.
Cheers,
Paul

I guess the key word in that story is "trying" the law is the law and if it is not broken , I beleive there is no leg for them to stand on ,might cost a bit to fight ,but would also be precedent setting ................. Case law plays a factor for pending and future lawsuits

There's no reason for a cop to be looking in your trunk without a warrant. Just don't give them a reason to pop open your trunk. Truck/trunk guns are a disappearing part of our heritage :(

In the seventies I always saw pick-up trucks with gun racks on the window. As a kid it was interesting to see shotties and Winnies in the parking lots. No one ever thought it was "seriously strange" or weird. Since then Canada just might have invited or been forced to admit some seriously strange, weird and violent people to it's society as well as some who are intimidated with a little freedom.

Gun in the trunk? So what? Is it radioactive or explosively volitile? Can it be stolen? Anything can be stolen.
Why the outraged fear?

I Alberta I can carry a gun 365 days of the year and will continue to do so.If I need a tool camping or any other reason it's handy...............Harold
