Being new to the dark side, I was wondering what you CZ shooters do for mag prep?Obviously with the painted mags the area that fits in the mag well should be buffed/scrapped down.Anything else? Also how long do these mags seem to last being so light and not as robust looking as the AK series.Watching people continuously drop their mags on the ground instead of a drop bag got me wondering. Thanks all

Stick them in the gun and shoot it. No need to "prep" anything. The paint will wear down with use.

They stand up very well to hard use. I haven't broken any.

I myself am interested in getting my four mags anodized. I can even do the sandblasting myself, I have a blaster. That'll take care of the thick coating of paint which prevents smooth & effortless mag changes.
But I'm looking for the tougher process called Type III (anodic) anodizing.

I saw a guy spraying silicon on his mags so they would insert more smoothly. I borrowed his can to spray my VX858 mags and they did insert more smoothly.

I am thinking of wire brushing the business end of the mags to get the thick paint off, but can't think of a thin paint that would be durable to replace what I take off.

In the meantime, the silicon trick seems to help.

The part that inserts into the mag is not aluminum, it's some other alloy that doesn;t anodize. If it bothers you, just strip the paint off that part of the mag with some furniture stripper - it comes right off.

Feels like steel, when I had to file one mag out of six to fit the mag well. This one was a brand new included with the rifle. The surplus ones with the paint missing in various spots fit just fine.New with the rifle was black the surplus where gray. Just tried some perma blue on it and it started to take a bit.First coat not very dark (yes I know you need muliple coats)

Update on the cold blue.Did multiple coats did not take a normal blue color.Stayed a brownish color and did not darken but the metal shininess is gone.Good enough for me.

I used a 3m cookie on an angle grinder to the sides only., just to get the 10 layers of paint off the cast/top part of the mag almost 2 years ago, and they still look shiny/bright like I just took the paint off. theyre smooth like butter now, kind of shiny, but ok...remember sandblasting will leave a slightly course texture, better for repainting, but a fine sandpaper is smoother if your like me and not repainting them.

I use a broad file to take the sides square. I've found that just squaring the sides does wonders.

Al my new mags were sand blasted and repainted all but the top of the mag. Even better solution, albeit overkill.

The top of the mag is not steel. It's is most likely cast aluminum which is why it anodizes a different color (or not at all). You can't weld an aluminum mag body to steel feed lips.

I have never had any issues at all with the Vz58 mags as they come. Yeah the paint on some is a bit thick but it wears off with use.
