CZ 858 magazine strong enough to be used as a handle/bipod?

Is the 30 round magazine strong enough to use as a bipod/support and handle? I've seen pics of people firing the VZ 58 whilst holding the magazine, but I've also read that holding it makes it lose reliability over time. How about using it as a "bipod" in prone position?

So 3 questions:
1) Is the magazine strong enough to use as a foregrip?
2) Is the magazine strong enough to use as a "bipod"?
3) Anyone try the Grip Pod (eg. GPS-02) with the CZ? I'm wondering if the height is tall enough to clear the magazine off the floor. The Fab Defence grip/bipod combo that most people use is too heavy IMO, and the Grip Pod is much lighter, but 1 inch shorter.

Sure it is. Vz. 58 mags aren't as strong as say, AK mags, but they're still pretty damn tough.

I've supported the weight of the rifle on my mags and have never had a malfunction due to this that I am aware of. Gripping it should also be fine, but it does depend on the mag. Some of them have a lot of slop when locked into the magwell and it's possible that gripping it may cause a malfunction, but I still very highly doubt it.

Try it out and see, it'll be fine.

I grip the mag all the time and have had no problems. Also, when you do mag changes it's pretty convenient since your thumb is close to the mag release.

Some of them have a lot of slop when locked into the magwell and it's possible that gripping it may cause a malfunction, but I still very highly doubt it.

It could also have the opposite effect and eliminate the slop if you hold it tight.

On the shorty 7.5" PDWs the mag is often all you have to hold onto!

Never seen a problem with gripping the mag, that's how the Czech's do it too.

Can't speak to the grip pod. We're a little biased in favor of Fab-Defense

I hold onto my mag while standing. No failures. However when I was sighting in my red dot I had the fore stock resting on sand bag but the mag was touching the bench and I had gremlin like failures repeatedly. 2-3 out of a five round mag. Never had failures before that and after I stood up it stopped. I wouldn't use mag as bipod.

Gripping the mag is fine. Although i would not rest the mag on anything while firing. As above stated.

Not likely as related to your position as your trigger pull. Bend your leaf spring up [thoroughly] and try again.

You are not going to be able to cause stoppages by holding or placing the mag on something. There is a lip all around the mag that prevents it from going in further that it should, unless you break that lip off you are good to go. That is why normal AR mags, and that type, have issues as there is nothing to prevent the mag from going in too far or the mag release hole from getting elongated over time. Causing the mag to either be in to far out not in enough.
