Yesterday I filed down a 1/2" drive socket to remove the big flat-head slotted bolt that holds the stock in place.

Worked very well with a 10 " extension.
I don't need it anymore so if anybody wants it, it is for sale in the EE.

intresting idea.i used a bit from a impact driver in a socket with an extension. you can get the impact driver cheap at princess auto.if ya hit the ext a couple times before ya try and take it off made it easier.i have done 2 of these so far.they are sure tight big czech cranking on those screws

Nicely done! I just used a bit of heat on mine and was able to put a large flathead on it.

I bought the socket at Princess Auto for $18.95 plus taxes.

From my plastic vernier, the diametre of the bolt head is 18mm, depth is approximately 2.5mm and width is 2mm.

Filing the socket to fit the bolt head was the hardest part of the operation.

Impact driver

The holding piece of a 3/8" impact driver is really good for getting at slotted screws in stocks.
It is slimmer than a standard socket.
Just take it off the impact driver and slip it an a 3/8" square socket ratchet extension and put a ratchet at the other end.
It works very well.
If the screw is very tight, use the impact driver at the end in place of the ratchet for loosening the bolt. You run less risks of mangling the driving slot that way.
PP.

Yeah... I was about to take a hacksaw myself but this ugly looking buttstock feels surprisingly comfortable to me and my wife! I'd better get a bigger screwdriver. Soaked screw in WD40 last nite.

I actually cut it in such a way and area that there was no more pressure after I finished cutting. So essentially you could use your fingers to unscrew it. Then I discovered the locking nut, which I didn't even know existed until after I managed to get the old stock off.

I've been getting flak for doing this in another thread. But there was no god damn way that screw was coming off and no one could convince me otherwise.
