I'm looking at buying one of these. It will be my first gun (very stoked). I want to get the lowest price on a brand new one. I'm sure everyone has their preference as far as dealers go. My only concern is, who has the best deal all in?

cheers!

yes, I think it would be a great way to start off my collection. It's reasonable to buy and to feed, looks great (in my opinion)... I've also had great experience with Czech made airguns... simple and reliable.

I love mine and everything you say about them is true.
I bought new because I was a little worried about what kind of a childhood some of the used ones may have had.
Moving Target still has a few but shop around and see who has the best deals.
(see equipment exchange)

reliablegun called me yesterday because i put my name down for one so they have a few in stock, I think at around $660.

It was my first rifle ever as well I purchased about a year ago, I think you will be very happy with your choice. Best of all you can shoot for cheap which is important since you know once you start its all consuming. You've been warned!

Sounds like a good plan... why "tactical - 2" though, CZ 858.. has shorter barrel, and so it looks a little better.. in my opinion... you'll only shoot it in the range.. so who cares that it is restricted...?

Because buying the non restricted one first gives you a dang fine excuse to buy the 858-4 restricted NEXT!!:D:D

And maybe he doesnt want to go to a range? (hunt, plink in legal sand pits and what have you) and perhaps he doesnt want to wait to get an rpal if he already has a pal?

Just got the call today from Reliable, been on the wait list, raced down there and I'm now the proud owner of a CZ-858 Tactical ye ha also bought 1200 rds of ammo.
Range test tomorrow.
I thought pretty good deal $650 for the rifle and 180 for a case of Ammo.
They also have a load of SKS's

thats the same price i paid for the rifle two years ago and about $11 cheaper on the ammo so yeah , its a damn good deal ya got.

Even with a chrome barrel... people think you can clean it in 2 weeks after shooting it. Well the barrel may be resistant to the corrosive ammo but the gas tube IS NOT.

After shooting corrosive, you best CLEAN the firearm adequately. I loaned mine to a friend who cleaned the barrel but neglected to clean out the gas tube assembly.

After 1 week when I got it back, it was kind if messy and pitting had started. I managed to save it but beware that a chrome barrel does not mean you can put it away after shooting it.

I will probably acquire both versions of the rifle with time anyways.

What are some solutions to that horrid gray paint finish? Does it need to be blasted and blued?

that "gray paint finish" is what makes the cz-858 a cz-858. it's the guns manhood!

Buy it shoot the hell out of it, when the paint will be chipping off then maybe you can think about redoing the finish. Until then, "save your money" and buy ammo! Never know when them damn zombies will show up.

Either way will enjoy shooting it and not breaking the bank feeding it. The nice thing is you can get a SKS if you like as well and feed the same ammo. Sweet deal if you ask me.
