CZ 858 Tactical from Lever Arms. Reviews ?

i got mine from Wolverine. Worth the money. Cheap ammo. Accurate enough with iron sights. Only complaint is finding scope or optic mounts.

I was waiting to try one out before I ordered one, Tried one at the range yesterday from Wolverine. I am totaly impressed with the rifle. When you consider it was built as a battle rifle fireing the 7.62X39 cartridge it is incredibly accurate, light, ergonomic, low recoil, robust (this thing would have to take an incredible #### kicking not to function). I would not like to be on the recieving end of this rifle. We tried it out to all ranges from 50-500yrds with the surplus ammo. The sight markings were very accurate for the ranges. At the 500 yrd mark we had a ram set on the bank and fired 2-5rnd mags at it using iron sights. on the first 5 had two hits one on the arse one in center and 3 miss but not by alot. on second mag about the same results one hit on head and one on arse 3 miss. (had a spotter to call out hits and correction),This is an excellent result in my opinion for this type of rifle, plus you can take it anywhere I am definatly ordering one on the next shipment after christmas. I was totaly impressed and was expecting not to be when I took it out.

averaged about 2"@ 100yrds some better some worse...probably better with better ammo at 200 and 300 shot at gongs and averaged about 60-80% hits we were having more fun than shooting for accuracy, and recording results, but when I get mine I will put it through all paces just out of curiousity. I think fun is what this rifle is about...lots of it and cheap. if you want accuracy go bolt gun, but for spray and play or a real good back pack rifle or quad rifle this is definately it.

The thing is pretty accurate considering what it is. I love my CZ. Since I got it I haven't shot my AR 15 once. Now if I could shoot my AR at places other than the range, that would probably change.

The CZ is damn near indestructible. The only down side is the non chromed barrel. It just means cleaning the barrel and gas system after shooting the corrosive ammo. IMHO for the money, you can't find a better 7.62x 39 gun (considering all the goodies that comes with it for 650$) and easily out performs an SKS

i spent most of the morning blasting out 400 rounds through my new rifle. i really like the way it shoots. i put a slant brake on it from dlask and the does seem to work well for me.

the rifle did hit very high right out of the box. about 6inches at 25m, and hardly on the papaer at 100m.

as for groups, so-so for me. most likely as a result of my left eye dominace causing my right eye to loose focus after a mag worth of shooting.

this is a pic of a gopher target on a 2x4 at 200m.

this is my big 200m target. i did't have the tools to adjust the sight so i was aiming about 24-30inches low.

i only have a couple complaints about this rifle. i hate the handle on the bolt being on the right side. i don't like rotating the rifle or taking my hand of the grip. i know this is com-bloc tradition but it is just my opinion. same grip with a AK type firearm

the saftey kinda bothers me. i think i'll get a safety made up so the lever is at my thumb, little more AR like.

the number one gripe for me is the stock. i actually have a bruise on my cheek. a friend was shooting his all morning and had the same problem. i feel like i was in a bar brawl. once i figure a way to get that stupid slotted screw out of the stock i think i'll make up a cheap tube stock.

Got mine from Wolverine on Friday.

I was impressed with the overall finish. It appears to be a brand new rifle. I know they are made of new and used parts but they seem to be refinished very well.

The paint was consistent and no chips or lack of coverage. Even the furniture appears to be new.

My gas cover has a little bit of looseness to it. I question how solid it would be for sight or scope mounting.

I noticed on surplusrifle that they did an article on mounting a sks/ak side mount on a different rifle. Might be something to look into for the 58 and 858s.

I haven't had a chance to take it out as I'm working Saturdays and the club isn't open on Sundays. When I do I'll let you know how it goes.

I really like the rifle, however I have to return it for repair. The following is my converstions with CZ Customer Service. I am not going to make any complaints about Lever, I am going to ship the rifle to them as they suggested, and we'll see how the process goes.

"My rifle was delivered with the front sight post moved for the windage adjustment all the way to the left. The front sight post is resting on the left hood. Using a SKS type sight adjustment tool, (that looks like a mini vise) anyone would be unable to move the sight anymore to the left.

The sight picture looks like this (i )

The point of impact for this rifle is to the left.

I have not adjusted the sight al all, the factory red locking paint is still intact. I wish there was a windage adjustment for the rear sight, then I could centre the front post and have fine adjustment room available.

Lever has only said to ship the rifle back and the gunsmith will look at it, I was wondering if this has occurred before, and what you would recommend I do. Does the factory warranty apply to Canadian-shipped rifles? It is disappointing to have a new rifle that shoots to the left. I feel the front sight was not indexed correctly at the factory. Would you care to comment on what gunsmithing should be done to this rifle? I do not want to remove the pins that secure the front sight myself, the rifle is new and I am not qualified to make that repair. "

Good Morning, Mr. ****
Thank you for information forwarded by you. It seems that middle point of impact is out of specified value (it must to be inside 8 cm circle dia and its center in Y axe 28 cm above aiming point). I counted approximated deviation by your sent pictures – see table below.

Parameter
specified value
actual value
evaluation

1.
Middle point of impact (coordinates) - left hit pattern data chart

X axe
0 ± 4 cm
- 6,5 cm
out of tolerance

Y axe
28 ± 4 cm
25,5 cm
comply

2.
Spread
18 cm
12,6 cm
comply

1.
Middle point of impact (coordinates) - right hit pattern data chart

X axe
0 ± 4 cm
- 5,8 cm
out of tolerance

Y axe
28 ± 4 cm
24,7 cm
comply

2.
Spread
18 cm
16,8 cm
comply

Summary:

Your rifle didn’t sighting-in properly, while counted spread comply with our regulation. Exist more methods, how to repair it, some by qualified gunsmith only. If you have your rifle under warranty, I recommend lodge a claim in your vendor (Lever Arms, Vancouver). By me is easier way to change your rifle to other one. Unfortunately I have to say, when I´m looking at an original hit pattern data sheet, I´m not satisfy – it looks like incredible.

Inform me about you decision, please. Thank you.

Faithfully yours

On the subject of potential problems, I am having trouble removing the receiver cover...I followed the instructions...pulled the pin...pushed forward and up-but I cannot pull it back and out over the lugs (?) on the back of the receiver. I'm worried about bending the cover. I would really love to get rid of the oil that keeps oozing out of this thing. What am I doing wrong?

if it's cocked then the cover won't come off. rack it to empty the chamber then dry fire it and try to remove the cover

I got mine last week and had a heck of a time getting the reciever cover back in. Had to be lined up just so. No wiggle room. Now that I have all the oil cleaned out I won't pull apart again till I get some serious shoosting completed at the range.

Looking to maybe buy one of these. Its my understanding that the difference between the rifle & carbine are:

CZ-858-2 is a non-restricted, 19" bbl rifle, non-chrome lined bore

VZ-58S is a restricted carbine, chrome lined bore

Went to:
Wolverines & P&D web sites, no info, no price
Lever Arms web site has the VZ-58S & price
Marstar web site has the VZ-58S

Can someone post prices & availability at the different dealers,
of the CZ-858-2 non-restricted rifle.

I think Wolverine is sold out.

Local stores might have a couple.

Levers has the unrestricted CZ 858 tactical with 4 mags, mag pouch, bayonet, cleaning kit and manual for $650.00 before tax/shipping.

They also have a neato AK style slant flash suppressor by Dlask for the rifle. $35.00 IIRC.

Wolverine will NOT be getting any CZ858-2's until the spring (March/ April)
They are all sold out of them. They were $650.00 each.

You should be able to move the rear cover when the rifle is dry fired, and locking-pin disengaged, with your thumb. push on the back of the cover and push the cover forward and the cover will come loose and pop upwards.
Remember putting the cover on tabs first is the way to put the cover back on . back to front.
