CZ 858 vs type 81 vs CZ 958 what would you get ?

So i MAY have enough to buy one. I was waiting on the 958 but then see wolverine got in 858, and now i see the type 81 is also here for pre order's. So all can be had in 7.62 x 39 which is what i woudl want it in as suppl;us ammo still reasonable and i have a sks as well so same ammo multi gun.

I have read up and know the 858 was designed in Czechoslovakia as its own toy instead of using the ak47. The 958 is a Canadian version of the 858 with a rail and modification to make sure no one can say it can be converted to full auto. The type 81 on other hand is the replacement for the ak47 in the Chinese army. It was a new design as well so seperate of the AK which again makes it legal here.

Price, well odds are from my reading the 858 and 81 (pre ordeR) are same cost at 1000$. The 958 wil be a little more and i have not seen all pricing details yet.

So the question is what would you get and why. Is one much better then the others.

I like my VZ so I imagine the CZ is just as awesome. The 985 looks neat too, but im sceptical of FTE. Type 81 is Norinco made so i'm sceptical yet with it till I see reviews, and at 999$ for a preorder.......... Ill wait for batch 2 or a used one.

Agreed, $999 for a surplus rifle that only comes with 1 magazine without more than a couple of promotional reviews isn't hype that I'm buying into.

$999 for a new CZ858 package with the bayonet, pouch, and 4 mags from Wolverine would be way better spent. I already have a CZ but I'm thinking about grabbing another, they're great rifles.

The CZ958's not coming guys. Even if I'm wrong and it ever does make it here it will be YEARS away. I'm going with the CZ858 as this is the last chance to get them. There will be more T81s. I'll pick one of those up sometime later, if the reviews are good.

I would buy the cz for the reasons above. The 958 is a possibility but not a great one at that to happen. The norinco 81 is new and interesting but would rather have my money on the cz.

This is my understanding. In fact, I think the only reason the 858s are coming is because the 958 aren't. They have retooled the factories for new model lines like the 805 and the skorpion. Years at best.

And even if they come, its a terrible design !

I honestly don't see how a T81 will surpass the CZ.
Even if the T81 is very well made ( we don't know yet ), I'm sure the CZ will be more balanced ( read not front heavy ) than the T81.

Do you think it will be easy to have spare parts for the T81 ?
Usualy, there is no spare parts for Chinese stuff.
CZ spare parts are everywhere

But if you are to pick up only one go for tested and known product - cz858.

The Type 81 will be neither surplus nor Norinco branded.

As far as the choices go, I've never been overly impressed with the Vz58 platform compared to the better AKS I've shot so I'd definitely want to take look at the Type 81.

"Take a look" means handle in person and see some solid reviews however, I wouldn't buy sight unseen.

Fair point and I agree go with a tried and tested rifle. If it comes down to dollars the cz is a winner because of the extra mags and accessories.

first post in following thread says these 81's are not surplus but new production, and they come with 2 magazines.

Kind of hard when the 858 are actually built, in store and ready to ship. T81 are still not built or imported. So im getting a new Vz858 and selling my beater.

Defo a fan of the cz858 over the type 81. Czech have a long history of quality in design and production and the gun shows it. Chinese production and design at that cost ? No way, easy choice for me cz858 >> type 81

Milled receiver, made by the actual cz factory, 4 mags, bayonet.
Hands down the winner for price point and quality.
