Hello CZ owners!

I have a chance to pick up a non restricted
858 for Cheap. Cheap cheap hahaha.
Problem is the barrels rifling is almost shot out.
It’s in rough shape... pitting rust etc.
The receiver and bolt look good.

Is there anyway to change barrels on these?
Where would I get one?

I’d like to keep in non restricted but if I had to
Turn it restricted I’d be open.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks!!!!

TG

There goes cheap! LOL
Did you get a chance to try shooting it to see if it can still group at all? If there is still rifling there it might still shoot OK even with pitting.

Barrel-swapping on an 858 is difficult without skills and some pretty expensive machinery, as mentioned. Dlask's work is good and $550 isn't too bad considering. Worth a shot if your rifle really doesn't group that well. I've fired an 858 with a frosted barrel that didn't shoot any worse than my own rifle which has a very good barrel, so if your rifle shoots just keep it that way and don't let it get any worse.

If it was a $100 - $200 bucks cheap then it’s worth it to go through the hassle of rebarreling it. But then again I hear these are in the radar to get prohibited again.

The variants that the conservatives exempted are in the crosshairs as the horse cops thing they are converted autos. The versions made on new receivers are A-OK. Such as CSA guns, WR762, etc.

Buy it, clean it, shoot it. Cheap is even in Africa remains cheap. You can't beat that.

Agree.

Buy it and shoot it, if you can get it cheap enough. Everyone has a different idea of a 'shot out barrel.' Plinking in the forest is different than trying for MOA at the range. They are great rifles and fun to shoot.

Buy it, clean it, shoot it. You'd be surprised how little rifling needs to be left for it to function and stabilize the bullet.

They are converted auto receivers. That's not even in question. The issue comes from the fact that it wasn't noticed for a long time, and how many of them came into the country as NR in spite of the fact. The conversion was thorough and cleanly done, with extra metal welded in almost seamlessly in the interior preventing the installation of an auto sere.

The most embarrassing part of it all, from a regulator's standpoint, is that it proves just how ridiculous the Converted Auto regulations are. A well done CA is just as difficult, and in some cases MORE difficult, to turn into a slect fire weapon as a purpose built semi-auto.

Technically and legally RCMP lab no matter how we bash them was acting right in this case. First CZ858 that came to the country were made from surplus receivers that were never installed and used. Later ones were removed from SA rifles, thus legally they are CA. First batch and later batch mechanically are the same receivers.
It's our fear mongering laws that facilitate this madness.
