Anyone know anything about these rifles? I was in P&D this afternoon and they have them new for 650.00 I think it was. Looks kind of like an Ak47 variant and I can't believe that the liberals haven't found out about this one yet, being an evil looking rifle and all. Any comments on the quality of this gun?

I bought one of these yesterday.

First the downside. As you have probably noticed the "woodwork" leaves something to be desired, and in my opinion the paint job could also be improved upon.

The good points. This is a really nice rifle to shoot, I found in the past with the 58 that it was a job to get it back whenever anyone asked for a go. I found it much nicer than any AK that I tried and the only thing that came close to the fun in shooting was the M1 carbine.
It is very reliable and as easy as they come to clean and maintain.

To sum up I would say they look like a piece crap but they are actually fantastic.

I think that if the Liberals get in there is a good chance that any more of these will not.

Yes i noticed the stock was made from what looks like particle board, A good coat of black spray paint of some kind would clear that up, and I did notice the blue painted barrel. Is the barrel crome lined, I assume not. My brother told me that a guy was at the spruce grove shooting range just outside of edmonton and a old lady saw his friend shooting it at the range and phoned the police saying that it was a machinegun. They came down and after an hour of proving it wasn't he was allowed to go home. I am not sure I want that kind of heat, but you never know.

Scout800 did a nice job on his, he used Canadian Tire truck bed liner. I will do the same with mine when it arrives.

It does look like a liberals nightmare but that's part of the attraction for me:D

I have not heard of a review as such, but it seems like quite a few here have them and seem very happy. I got mine from GMK at Thunder Bay 807 346 4088. Comes with four mags in leather mag pouch, sling and bayonet. The usual price $ 650.

As you guessed, the barrel is not chrome lined.

Do you know if anyone has done a review anywhere on the rifle? Where did you buy yours from?

Enjoy.

Love this rifle. The amount of gun you get for the money is hard to beat in the blackrifle/surplus world. The bad thing is us ammo companies are stopping shipments of 30 cal soviet across their borders. Cheap ammo is a bonus though - lots of it around and the cleaning is a breeze. Field strip is the true beauty of this accurate rifle.

I have one of these, I picked it up in early november. I love this rifle as well. I was out north west of edmonton shooting with a friend. The cops did come, they did think it was a machine gun. After inspecting the trigger group, magazine, registration etc, they let me go.

I was close to red deer yesterday shooting with it. My friend has an AR-180B and we were shooting clay pigeons we had set up at distances of 50-150 yards. Once sighted in properly, I had no problems consistently hitting the clays out to 150 yards. I owned an SKS-D and I would say the CZ-858 is a much better rifle, and for 650$ its a much better package. I picked up a muzzle brake from dlask, but I found it works too good. The barrel does not rise, but it drives the rifle into my cheek bone, very hard too, I removed it.

All in all, I love this gun. With the cheap 7.62x39 laying around, it is affordable to shoot too.

What am I doing wrong when I try a search for this rifle? I try CZ an nothing I try CZ 858 nothing, 858 nothing, CZ 858-2 nothing. What did you guys type into the Search to bring it up?

I've been haveing problems with the search feature. Just brose the "Black and Green Rifles" forum here and you'll find lots on the CZ.

So what is the difference between the VZ 58 that Marstar sells and CZ 858 other than the barrel length. If they are basically the same, Marstar sells a folding stock and would make the 858 much move Liberal unfrendly.

Throttle Monkey: sounds like he was talking about you, my brother must have got the range wrong but the rest of the story sounds correct. How many cops did it take to finally figure out it was legal. I have two buddy's in the RCMP, one in the organized crime unit and the other on highway duty and they both said that a very small number of officers are at all knowledgeable about firearms and the majority as high as 90% know which end of the pistol is the dangerous end and that is about it. Had two RCMP's years ago when I lived in the rurals come to the door and wanted to see me gun collection to verify a serial number on a revolver (I was young and stupid so I let them in). They both had no idea how to check to see if my Colt SAA was loaded or not, couldn't believe it.

As far as the crome lined barrel, I don't think it would matter much seeing as we might shoot off 100-200 rounds at the most and when I get home I clean everything anyway. I think the real bonus here is that it is not restricted, yet anyways.

Hunter- Some plain clothed guys were inspecting the rifle like crazy. I was talking to a guy and he mentioned that the plain clothed guys might have been from NWEST. There were six guys in total that showed up, four of them were RCMP in rcmp clothes, and the two plain clothed guys.

for the corrosive ammo, it works great. I use it all the time and just clean the barrel and gas system with boiling water. The beauty of the 858 compared to an SKS is it is alot easier to access the gas system on the 858. But it would still be nice to have non-corrosive ammo for dirt cheap.
