I'm looking at adding a .223 to my stable. I've had my sights set on a CZ 527 american for a while but I'm starting to rethink my original decision.

The gun will mostly be used for target shooting and plinking, with the occasional coyote hunting trip in the winter. I tend to like light, slim guns, which is why I originally gravitated towards the american. To give you an idea, my heaviest deer rifle is a M70 featherweight. I have a few 452s and absolutely love them. I also already have a 700VLS in .243 that I originally bought as a target/varmint rifle, but I don't find myself shooting it very often due weight and ammunition costs.

I've had a look at the M700 SPS tactical, and it didn't do anything for me. It felt cheaply made and is on the heavy side.

I also briefly looked at the savage M10 PC, but its also pretty heavy and I'm not crazy about savages even though they tend to shoot well.

Examined a Remington M7 predator. The weight and balance was nice, but again, not as robust as I'd like. The price however, is appealing.

I haven't been able to find a 527 varmint in stock anywhere to check out the weight/balance.

Any suggestions?

Wolverine Supplies have them in stock and the single set trigger on the 527 is a great feature. You also might want to check out a Tikka T3 for light weight and a good shooting rifle.

I have the varmint in walnut in 204 Ruger which will be the same rifle in 223, mine has nice accuracy and is a nice combination of barrel length and weight. I have the 223 in the kevlar stock and it handles well. FS

I have the 527 in .204 Ruger and with the standard barrel. It's very light and a very nice gun overall, a real pleasure to carry. When I'm making long shots, especially a lot of shots like in a gopher patch, I wish it were heavier.
