Cz Bren 2 Ms Question

Just looking for some information, one of my range friends brought his new CZ Bren 2 ms to the range. He bought ammo for 5.56. I was looking it over and noticed that the Gas Selector has 223 stamped on it. He asked me if it was ok to run the 5.56 through it. I told him that I honestly have no idea because I’m not familiar with the gun at all. I told him normally no, but maybe it’s a wylde barrel.

Can anyone shed light on this?

I find it odd since he said he purchased the 5.56 model. Or are they all stamped with 223?
 
The important part is the barrel - what does it say on it? The difference between 223 & 556 is in the throat area. Even then a lot of people (me included) would argue it's not an issue.

Is this a genuine untouched factory rifle direct from CZ or is it a reworked version from RDSC or Marstar? (Marstar & RDSC both use 223 wylde which is built specifically for 556 / 223 use)

Another thing to mention, CZ have 556 rifles (which I'm guessing they sell to the military) but due to the never ending negative connotation around "military" style weapons some manufacturers mark their rifles 223 which gets it away from the 556 military association, I would be amazed if they have two version of the gun / barrel (223 & 556) when 556 will do both.

I imagine you are already aware of this but 223 in a 556 barrel is fine but the some say 556 is a 223 barrel will lead to issues.

It's only because of stupid gun laws in Europe. Many of the EU countries have a ban on rifles chambered in "military calibers".

A gun marked 5.56-Nato goes straight to the banned list. But the exact same gun marked .223-Remington is completely legal to own.

You will notice that Keltec does the same thing with their RDB rifles.
Rifles sent to dealers in USA are all marked 5.56-Nato. But any guns sent to dealers outside of USA are marked .223-Remington.
Aside from the markings; They are the exact same gun.
