I haven't been on this site for quite a while but recently i got the itch for a bolt action 22LR. The past week ive been reading what ever i can find and scouring the canadian gun stores for a CZ or a Brno.

I've found several but having a hell of a time deciding.
cz452-2E zkm Synthetic $550
Brno mod#5 $550
Brno mod#2 $570
Brno mod #2 $550
Brno mod #2 -EH $450
Anschutz 1441/42 $500
And there is a few on this site another Brno #2 for and a Cz pro varmint both are priced higher. Most of the Brno's are missing some part of the rear sight or front sight hood. Just assuming it was from trying to get a low scope mounting .

New guns I've found are
CZ 457 Americam Beech $650
CZ 457 American synthetic $550

I came across some small mentions of the later Cz / Brno change over rifles having 12 groove rifling. Any issues with that.

The used guns I found off the site I would say they are Good to Good plus condition. Nothing special about the wood. That I can fix as I've refinished a lot of stocks over the last 30 yrs.
The gun is going to be used for gopher shooting and the odd informal bench shooting just to see what myself , ammunition and the gun can actually do.
99% of the use will be a gopher gun.

How long of a barrel do you prefer? I have owned brno 1,2e,3,4,5 cz 452,455,457 and my favorite of them all has been the 1, 5 and 452 scout. I prefer the 16 and 20 inch barrels. They have all been very accurate and well made rifles.
The new cz are a great rifle but they have (in my opinion) cheapened the machining process by eliminating the bolt lug, and told the customer they have improved the product by adding the switch barrel ability.

I'd prefer 20" I think. The 16 looks to short to me. I have a mossberg 148B that has a 22" barrel I think and that seems fine. I know so.e of the brno's come in 24" but that would be ok for gopher work . Worse comes to worse I can always chop the barrel down and recrown it on my lathe.

The switch barrel is a nice option for guys that would want to do that but I'm not interested in the 17 or 22mag. It's expensive enough to shoot gophers now with just 22lr. I've gone to gopher patches and the guys laugh when I only bring 2000 rounds. They bring a brick and when we leave the fields are still crawling with gophers . We hardly put a dent in the population. Lol

Then you should go for the #5 from your list as if I remember correctly, it has a 20 inch barrel. (might be 20 point something as it is likely metric. I think the 2e was 24.4 inches. 16 inch isn't too short though, I read somewhere that a 22lr achieves maximum velocity in 16 inches of barrel and after that it slows down. (of course that likely varies depending on what ammo is used too)
To me, a switch barrel is a stupid idea unless you can only own a certain number of guns. Otherwise, who wants to re zero your scope every time you switch barrels?
I am envious of how many gophers you have there. In my area, I know of four areas that have ground squirrels. They are all about an hours drive from me, and you'd be hard pressed to get 30 in a day.....
