First post, but I've been checking this sight out quite often. I am looking at purchasing a Norinco CZ copy the NP40. This will be my first pistol. I have done a lot of research on CZ and I am impressed with what I've read. I have also researched Norinco and I know that there are a lot of people that feel their 1911 copies are good value. I was wondering if anybody here has had any experience with the Norinco CZ's, specifically in .40 cal; good or bad. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance. - D

Copies are okay if that's what you want to do. I think you'd be much happier with the real deal, though. Money well spent IMHO...

I hate to sound like a one-song kind of guy, but you are likely to be unhappy with the Norc clone. Some are good, lots are problematic. Not super bad, just unrelaible. CZ's quality control is in the toilet lately, too.

That is way too annoying for someone new to the sport to have to deal with.

Save up some pennies, and get one of the big 4: Beretta, Glock, HK, or Sig, presented in alphabetical order.

Hell with it: Buy a glock. :) Don't be scared off by how hugely popular they are. Glocks are great beginner guns. Reliable, simple, and easy to maintain.

redstar,

I would recommend saving up a little more money and getting a pre-B CZ-75. They are awesome pistols, and generally quality is fantastic being a real CZ.

Like some have said it is a pistol that you will keep, so make it a good one. I own a pre-B and even though I have others (such as a SP-01), the pre-B is still one of my favourites.

Thanks for the responses so far. I understand that there are differences between a $1350.00 gun and a $350.00 gun. For a number of reasons I will not be buying any of those pistols that list for over a grand; but mainly cause I don't have that kind of money. CZ's and 1911's are the two designs that I like and have researched extensively, but I am definately leaning towards the CZ. If I can find a used CZ in reasonable shape for the right price then I would go that way, but even a used CZ is twice the price of a brand new Norinco with a one year warranty. I would like to hear if anyone has any experiences with CZ or Norinco in .40 cal, as I am leaning towards that calibre. Thanks - D

Well CZ was originally designed for 9mm, but their 40 versions are pretty good. I have only ever owned 9mm CZ's, but have shot several 40's and they are pretty good - just the 9mm version with a bit more snap!

Check out the exchange forum, good deals do pop up. For what it's worth, there is no comparing a real CZ and a Norinco CZ: I would say that the CZ is well worth the extra $$$.

You can get a used glock for around 600-700, and a used sig, berreta, hk for 800-900, all of these in my opinion offer more bang for your buck over norinco. You have to remember that your going to add almost another $75 for that norinco for taxes, and shipping. I will never buy another norinco product after I bought a 1911 of theres, just pure crap, Looks like it was machined with a angle grinder, and fitted by monkeys with hacksaws.

second that. Quality pistol. They go for 400-450. Cheap ammo 9mm. They like ONLY CZ factory mags, no aftermarkets!

Enjoy

I had a CZ 75B in .40cal and sold it for parts after 5 months and around a 1000rds. every second round was a FTF or FTE, what a piece of crap. I guess thats what you should expect from a US rip-off of the original, buy it in 9mm and it will work fine.

I have a CZ-75 SA in .40S&W. It is an awsome handgun and one of my favorites. I have never had an FTF with this pistol and am almost half way through my third case, yep over 2000 rnds of ammo with this pistol. It has your normal wear marks but other than that cosmeticaly looks new. As with any firearms or car manufacture there are the odd bad one that get through. My vote would be spend the few extra pennies for the CZ, they are tight and excellent shooters, parts are easily accessable and as for mags, my extra mags are Megar mag's and have had no problems with them.

I have the Norinco CZ 40 cal knock-off and am very happy with it. I actually find the trigger nicer than a few real CZ's I've tried. Finish is excellent. Too bad it has made in china on the slide.
