I have an 858 and I am looking to get a magwell adapter. Do they all require modifications to the receiver? and which is the most cost effective one? does the one from Zahal fit the 7.62x39 mags?

No, zahal sells CSA adapter for .223 CSA only,
The only way to go is B&T XCR mag adapter, they are at wolverine for $185 and you can send the rifle to them to do the mods to receiver for extra $50..

Funny you commented cause I was just looking at yours and I am considering doing the same thing hence the magwell adapter!

Does that include any mags ? Just trying to work out the final cost.

Ok, I've done some homework on this, as I have a csa vz58 in 7.62 with an adaptor, and it works great.

Czh-2003, cz-858 tac2, tac4, and older csa guns will require machining to accept the adaptor. If you remember, even the early .223 csa guns required machining. Later incarnations have the receivers changed to accept them. This includes some 7.62 models. I have one, and it works great with the latest csa adaptor. The earlier csa receivers, and earlier csa adaptors may not work without modifications. Basically, the changes to the milling of the .223 receivers was carried into the 7.62 guns, probably because it had no effect on stock guns anyway. Here is a pic of the proper adaptor, and gun with it:

Note the round mag release button, not the rectangular one. I don't know if that's significant, but I noticed it.

Adapter $185

Receiver mods $50

Shipping rifle insured both ways $150 ?

4 mags $107.8

= $ 492 + taxes 10% ? $541.2

It ain't worth it !

There is a great thread on mag adapters, it is on the 5-6th page at Wolverine's forum, called CZ-858 magwell adapters, there is also a diagram of the work that needs to be done, it's on the 9th page in the same thead.
