I'm going to pick up a 9mm pistol. I've wanted a Sig 226 for awhile but the CZ75 Sp-01 is also on the short list. Any comments from owners of either or both appreciated.

You really have to experience both guns yourself.

If you are 61 years old, have better than 20/20 vision in each eye, but presbyopia and cross dominance. If your hands have a large palm with average fingers, if you work out so your hand strength is better than average, own what I own.

Both SIG and CZ have superb reputations, with many adherents. After having owned several handguns, I just bought a SIG P226 CPO. The sights, the grip, the trigger pull and feel, the weight and balance of the gun are what I've been looking for.

You might want to try a single-action 1911. The Internet has many thousands of words debating the merits of this gun--but you should experience the trigger. It's unique and very, very conducive to accuracy.

A new SIG costs hundreds of dollars more than a new CZ. A SIG refurb is still more expensive than a CZ Only you can decide if it's worth it. Consider what you'll be using it for. What accessories do you want for it? What sights are you comfortable with?

Don't forget the feel, the looks and sounds. Shooting is an aesthetic experience, too.

I dont have any experience with CZ, however I own several SIGS and in my book a stainless 226 9mm is about as sweet as it gets...unless you want to go high end with a 210 !

I think the grip is more ergonomic on a CZ and it has a lower bore axis than the Sig. Sig is a quality pistol but I really do not like the higher bore axis on a Sig.....but I shoot a Glock.

You will love the CZ Shadow, great trigger, both single and double, very accurate, and very easy to control. Fiber optic front sight etc. I have fired a few and I now wait for mine to come into Canada! Cheers!:D

SP-01 is a better gun.

I owned Sig 226, it is just too small for my hands.
SP-01 feels better, heavy, good ergonomics.

Both guns are very accurate to 50 yrds.

I shoot SP-01 better than Sig. I get 3"-4" from 50 yrds, every 10 shots I try.

For the price, get CZ.

The CZ is very accurate for the price, which is also quite good. My main complaint with the CZ & clones is that the slide is hard to grasp compared to most other pistols. The CZ is slightly more prone to breakage than the Sig, but only if you are really abusing it. the Sig is very easy to disassemble, the CZ is a bit more fidgety.

They are both great pistols, try them both and then decide.

Cripes! you must have mitts like an elephant has ears, I find the sigs really bulky in the grip, much prefer CZ's they feel smaller to me, though I am talking a cz 75 here...........

for the price the cz's all rock!

I have to go now. My Chessie just farted and I have to flee the room:runaway:

SIG gets my vote. The only thing about the CZ was that the slide seems somewhat hard to slide back. That being said an SP-01 is on my short-list.

For the money I'd get a SIG as its the nicer pistola IMO.

Sp 01

The SP 01 is one of the finest guns I've owned, and their less than $800.00 new. I don't own a SIG anymore, they are a fine gun but the price is a bit up there now.

If you can try them both and see what works best for you.

I bought an SP-01 as my first ever handgun, to learn on, about 2 months ago. I did a couple weeks of heavy reading, and handling the same guns as you are considering. It came down to 3 things, I guess:

-I liked the Sig better in looks but not in feel. The heaviness, and heavy front end, of the CZ really helps me deal with recoil and the barrel doesn't move much on each shot. I have medium-to-thin sized hands with longish fingers, and the CZ fits me very well indeed. I didn't get to shoot the SIG but love how the CZ feels.

-I wanted a gun for IPSC production, this is as well or more respected as any gun out there for this use.

-price. I *could* afford an extra $3-600 depending on model (new), but as it's my first I thought I'd not go 'all in' on my first try.

I still only have 300 rds down it, I do 50 at a time and am making progress every time out. I'm about due to shoot a 1 holer my next time or maybe the next after. Or maybe not! ya never know.
