CZ Redhead as first shotgun?

I've been doing some research while I patiently wait for my PAL/RPAL to arrive - status changed to "Issued" last week!

My plan is to start by picking up a 12 guage shotgun, then a .22 and once I get proficient at that a .223 or other centerfire rifle.

Starting with a shotgun because I enjoy busting clays. Hope to purchase a 'Trius One Step' clay thrower based on some feedback here and have fun busting clays at the back of the farm.

I have previously shot O/Us and a pump action and for whatever reason enjoyed the O/Us much more. It was a Browning Cynergy OU that I have shot and a Mossberg 88 I think. I've also shot a Mossberg Silver Reserve.

Obviously I understand fit is everything and won't purchase shotgun unless it fits but I thought I'd run by you guys what you thought of the CZ Redhead as a shotgun to start with. It seems affordable and is still an O/U that seems well regarded. Folks at a skeet club I have shot at in the past say that I need to get a Beretta Silver Pigeon or Browning Citori and nothing else. I'd love to but they are out of my budget right now and I can't say that I am ready to take up skeet seriously. I'm mostly just looking to have fun.

OTOH, I may be best served by getting a cheaper pump or semi to start with and getting some more experience and having money left over to get that CZ 452/455 at about the same time. I suppose there is nothing wrong with having a pump handy in a safe by the bed and getting an O/U at some later point in time.

Would appreciate any input. Epps also does not seem to have a Redhead in stock. Anyone know where I can find one to shoulder?

Should I consider a semi by any chance?

The redhead will be a fine starter gun. They're made well and can take chokes for various clay games. Fit is everything in scatterguns. Who cares what ppl on the skeet say

I have had 4 different O/U's in my life so far- Ruger Red Label, Baikal IJ something/something, Browning Superposed and a CZ Redhead.
Still have the Red Label and the Redhead. Love redheads...

The Redhead is a good gun. They're proving themselves really well since I have never met someone who hates their Redhead or infact, their CZ/Huglu shotgun. Mine is a 20 gauge and man, at first I thought it had to be a 28gauge for how small it is. Mine has 26" barrels. If you can, go for the 26" barrels.

Wolverine Supply is a CZ importer so you can give them a try. I recently heard that Wholesale Sports now stocks CZ products once again.

I'd love to order from Wolverine but figure I ought to shoulder the gun before I do so.

The other I have hear of is the now discontinued Savage Milano. I can order it online but again, I really ought to shoulder it before I do.

Looks like I'm the only one with anything bad to say about CZ shotguns. I bought a Redhead a year or so back and the first time out shooting sporting clays the stock split right behind the safety. It was sent back to the distributer and two months later when I got it back the replacement stock looked like it was put on by a 4 year old. The wood to metal fit was horible, the screws were in at an angle and in the process of fudding this thing up they split the new stock by the trigger guard. When it was sent back again I was told take it or leave it, so I got my money back. It's to bad because I really liked the gun, it shouldered well and before the stock split it was a really nice looking piece.

CZ said take it or leave it?? Hard to believe they would say that, especially since most reports say they have a great warranty and customer service.

Wolverine have sold lots of the CZ O/U (Redhead and Canvassback) and never had a problem with one yet. Both are in stock
