So what are your thought about. a shadow. being built. Into an open. Gun can it be done is it a good platform. To build on?

Can it be done yes. Is it a good platform no. The shadow was not designed to handle major loads. There is plenty of info on it on the eons forum. I recently considered the same thing. After all the research seemed the Cz czechmate was the way to go. Building a shadow into an open gun is not a cheap venture. Depending on what you plan to do with the gun buyers no a gun already designed for open may be the way to go.

It's good but not great.
The gun is mainly production because it couldn't out perform a 1911/2011

Standard/open are both domenated by the same platform.
I know classic is literally owned by 1911 that's how good it is.:jerkit:

^^^What Chalk said. If CZ is the platform you want to run with, Have an eye for a Czechmate be it new or used and have at it. I wouldn't chance building it off a Shadow if you plan on making Major power factor. Not even with a face shield!

I see it a bit different.

There are very few 1911's in production because a true 1911 is SA and in production all guns start DA and the few that are DA cant compete with the newer design guns that dominate that division.

Standard is dominated by 2011's which has some features in common with a 1911, but a 1911 is to a 2011, like a Ford model T is to a Ford model GT. Its got 4 wheels, doors, windows, seats, motor and trans, etc, but much newer technology and a lot more refined.

Antique division, oops, I mean classic division, is owned by 1911 because your not allowed to use anything else in that division, they had to put them in their own class, the original design and mag capacities limit them to competing amongst themselves. Although now that revolver can have 8 rounds I suppose they can combine those 2 division as there would be no advantage to running one over the other now...lol

To the OP if you are thinking of going with an open gun, you would be better served to just buy one of the "ready to go out of the box" models available from STI or Tanfogilo. They are proven, they run much better than most Frankenstein's and cause fewer headaches, parts are readily available, and in the long run will probably cost you less and be worth more if you ever decide to sell it.

There are no 1911 in production. standard is dominated by 2011s in major as a 1911 major cannot fit the box with capacity mags therefor rulling out 1911 as a major competitor as such a heavy frame mitigates so much recoil jump as it is minor cannot compete.
Remember, before 2011 the 1911 was king. Now it's younger brother just took the field.
Infact, Production division came around so the glock, sig and smith guys could compete and actually win back in 2000!

Antique division is where your GM in your division started, got bored and moved to the next flavour.
Production division is merely the shadow division, all others are there for fun.
You may see it different, but it's not.

Cheers

The Shadow is NOT a 9mm major gun and it is not a good choice to build an open gun on. The Czechmate is built on the TS (Tactical Sport) frame. If you want to be creative, you can build a 9mm Tactical Sport up, but for the price, you should just buy a Czechmate.

Actually there are a few DA/SA 1911 in 9mm in production, had one on my squad at either the Nationals or Provincials last summer.

I think it was long before 2000, I was shooting a Smith back in the early 90's in "stock" division and the 1911's didnt fair well back then either, remember we had double stack high caps and no 10 round mag limitations back then, single stack was a huge disadvantage.

I wouldnt quite say production division is Shadow division , 2011 IPSC world shoot, 1st Glock, 2nd Beretta, and 2014 IPSC world shoot, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Tangfogilo, so after 2014 you could call it Tangfogilo division tho I guess...lol, but 2017 may be the year, or not, have to wait and see.

Honestly in my opinion i think if you are going to shoot open division and want to shoot to the best of your ability you need to spend the money and get a real open gun. Buy a 2011 platform and go. Small frame CZ/Tanfo are not built to take the abuse of an open gun. Even the CZ Chechmate guns break frames and barrels. STI or other purpose built open guns are the only way to go. Spend the money.
