CZ Shadow Frame Crack

They certainly could be cracks. By the time you made a full penetration weld and had the machining done dor the weld and resulting weld distortion, the cost would be more than a new pistol. Contact cZ and see if they will do something.

First I've heard of this theory. I'm not switching back to the original mainspring on mine.
I have a reduced mainspring on my CZ's as well but I wouldn't go with a reduced recoil spring as well. Running both reduced springs will increase the slide velocity quite a bit, what is that doing to do to the gun?

This is a high mileage gun, well over 5k rounds. It's a former range gun so it's probably been handled a little rough. I knew what I was getting into before I bought it, I just figured a CZ would last a little bit longer. The pictures are pretty close up and don't show any of the wear and tear.

Whoops Sorry Guys I missed a "5" It's had around 55k rounds through it. They said it normally had around 11k every 6 months and its a gun from '08

Ah I thought so - I was doing some math and I felt the 5 thousand was a really low number.

Hmm, my range has CZs...

Holy crap...55,000 rounds? I hope you didn't pay much for it! Even at low cost reloads that's what...maybe $10k worth of ammunition? The previous owner certainly got his money's worth out of that gun.

Yea, it's a range gun. Hence the high round count, it was an incredible deal, cheap to the point where paying for a new frame (assuming I can procure one) would still be cheaper than buy a new cz shadow.

I know its been a while, but curious what you did. Did you cointact CZ?
Im worries as i just bought a new 85 Combat.
From those pics it looks like cheap steel...

anyone reading this and getting scared about their cz with reduced recoil spring, buy some shock buffs, practice with them then take them out for matches (dont want to have one shred during a match)

55k is a good amount of ammo, ive shot a shadown with ~75 and its fine... not sure if it had a shock buff or not though

55k rounds shot, I definitely wouldn't have bought it. You brought it on yourself, sorry to say.

Unless it's an AK47, it will have considerable wear and tear after that many rounds...

I shot an AK in Detroit and the range guys said they don't even clean it... been going strong for years, can't kill it.

55k rounds is a pretty decent round count for any gun. Yes there are some that will last longer, I've got a .40 S&W Beretta with over 150k through it, a Shadow with 72k+ through it and another with around 45k through, all 3 guns are still in excellent shape. But I've also toasted two Berettas, one at 11k and the other at 22k, I've got a Shadow with a flaw in the frame that I had to repair with steel epoxy, and I've seen Glocks break locking blocks and slide rails at under 5k. Each gun is like a lottery ticket, but hopefully with better odds.
Now as for your gun, honestly, unless you intend to try and shoot another 55k through it, I wouldn't even worry about those cracks. Smooth em out if they are causing binding issues with the gun, and use it as a plinker. Nothing dangerous is going to happen, even once they become terminal. If CZ is willing to replace the frame, awesome, but 55k, on a rental gun? I wouldn't expect them to, in fact I'd think it ludicrous if they did. Even better, buy a .22 Kadet conversion for it and throw the slide on a new frame. Double win.

I am in the wore out camp. These pistols wear and yours is worn. what else is fatigued? What is there you cannot see. You life, hands, eyes are worth a lot more than the $800 its going to cost to replace your pistol. Throw it out and go get a new one, its just that simple. You lost more by buying a used one than you would have by buying a new one, shooting it for 3 years and selling. These don't last forever, yours is proof. Let it go man.

Thanks for all the info guys, I've decided to look into a kadet kit and if the cracks worsen I'm going to give crafm a call and see if they can order a frame for me.

Thanks again for the advice :)

Thedors, contrary to what most think, these things are disposable. Rather than replace the frame you should consider replacing the whole pistol. Catastrophic failure is no fun. It can occur and is much more likely to occur with worn out guns than with new ones. Consider the fact that the rest of your gun has been well used also and likely has many parts that need replacing. Your hand is way to valuable to be shooting old kit. Really throw the thing away and start over. I am not being cheeky or silly nor am I speaking from lack of experience. Why do you want wore out part on a new frame? Or new parts on a cracked frame? Start over. The cost will be less and you'll be much safer.
