Hi all,

I picked up some Tanfoglio magazines for the CZ Shadow because I wasn't impressed with the quality of the CZ magazines. Those rattled as if the spring with loose and besides, the plastic abomination we're dealt will likely break at some point when dropped during a match.

Anyway, the Tanfoglio mags are not able to be fully inserted (by maybe 1/8th of an inch), so I've ordered rubber bumpers Are there any other things I should be aware of when using the Tanfoglio magazines in a Shadow? I seem to recall something about those hitting the mag release, or was it the barrel? A search of the forums did not turn up what I thought I read at some point involving these issues.

Thanks,

Some work, some don't. If you are playing IDPA or IPSC I would stick to CZ mags. None have mine have ever broken over the years. Some with lots of use. IMHO use CZ mags in the Shadow.

Take Care

I've been using tanfo mags in my shadow for about a year. The CZ mags fit a little nicer but like you, I wasn't crazy about the plastic bases. The tanfo mags have worked fine so far (5000 rounds later).

The chrome mags from tanfoglio are rust proof. They are also smoother. Good for feeding,. ok for mag changes.

I picked up four of the blued Tanfoglio mags, I did not know about any rust issues. After some experimentation I've found that 2 of the 4 mags appear to interfere with the trigger in double-action, about one out of five times. I lowered the mag so it sat slightly lower and that stopped the problem, but obviously that's not something I can do during a match, so I hope the rubber bumpers will help there.

I use the oem CZ mags for IDPA and the SS Tanfoglio mags with bumpers in IPSC. The Tanfoglio mags give an advantage in reloads, but not a big enough one that they are a must have, imho. I have managed to explode a few of the Tanfoglios on insertion, by hitting the base plate take-down button (even through the bumper!) which leads me to believe I have to go a little easier on the mag changes!

I got 2 blued Tanfoglio mags from Freedom Ventures in January. I haven't touched my original CZ mags since. Mind you, I don't compete, so I probably don't abuse them enough to see their weak points.

Did you have any issues with the seated magazines sticking out of the mag well (by about 1/8th of an inch)? Do you use bumpers?

Thanks,

Yes, there's a small gap. No, I didn't have any issues with it. No bumpers.

Honestly, I didn't even notice until you mentioned it, LOL. The gap does not interfere with my shooting. Think of all those high-capacity mags those lucky Americans use: they DO stick out. :D

I've been shooting IPSC for almost six years using CZ mags. No issues. The ten round rattle is common. I've dropped my mags on concrete and haven't broken one yet. Mind you, I don't make a habit of dropping them on concrete.

Well that's probably because you live in BC ;) In the Toronto area, most of the clubs I frequent are indoors, with concrete floors.. and I've seen a few mags break apart when hitting them.

Thanks all!

I have four blocked Mec-Gar Tanfoglio magazines for my CZ 75B. Two of them will occasionally lock back the slide with one round left in the magazine. My best guess as to the cause is that compared with my two CZ magazines, there isn't as much clearance between the slide stop and the follower and top edge of the body. Taking some material from the follower "shelf" has made it a bit less frequent, but hasn't eliminated it entirely.

I have noticed that the edge of the magazine body can contact the slide stop when the inserted magazine is moved around in the frame. My next plan of action is to grind off a little bit of this edge so that it has the same clearance as the CZ magazines.
