I'm looking at a magwell for the CZ SP-01 manual safety version, non-Shadow. CZ-parts has a brass one but says it might be necessary to change out the magazine base pads. Does anyone have any actual experience with this?

Also, the Eemantech magwell doesn't say this at all in the description. Will it be required to change out base pads?

Also, are all short grips compatible with all makes of magwells?

The OEM CZ magwell requires magwell-compatible base pads, either OEM CZ or aftermarket. Otherwise the front lip of the stock plastic base pad interferes with insertion. Base pads are not cheap, but they last forever. MecGar also sells mags already equipped with metal base pads, no significant cost advantage vs buying mags and pads separately.

Re: short grips - magwell compatibility: OEM CZ grips and magwell work well together. I personally find aluminium CZ grips too thin and slippery. My daughter and I both run Lok Grips palmswell bogies on our Shadow 2’s.

Aftermarket magwells are not standardized in height and will likely require fitting. Better check with the manufacturer.

Excellent thank you, that's exactly what I needed to know!

These should work being 75/Shadow compatible. Can’t hotlink so just take the space out:

To use the Magwell you need the short grips.
Front lip of El-cheepo stock mags need to be filed back.

Check out the Springer Precision mag wells, and their basepads, or the Henning Basepads (I prefer the Henning ones). You don't need shorter grips with the Springer magwell, and it's much nicer than the CZ one.
