Has anyone tried to sand and stain, or paint these stocks (besides Krylon or duracoat)? I'm thinking that red/brown colour runs right through the wood/plastic.Thinking about giving it a try.

Hmmm... maybe after sanding, using some kind of stain to give color and after putting a clear coat in aerosol or just light sanding and go with the clear coat.
