Hi,

I am looking for a grouse over / under shotgun that is light enough for hours of walk. I own a side by side Yildiz 20 Ga, super light weight but I don't think I like the side by side grip and handling, I also own a CZ Canvasback, 12 Ga, but too heavy for grouse walks...

Anyways I saw that CZ have the Upland Ultralight and trying to get a fair deal on one.

I live in the Montreal area but the places I contacted around here, they asked for over 1000$ to import one.

Yet the only great price I saw online was this, but out of stock:

Any idea if there is a good deal somewhere in Canada on the CZ Upland Utralight?

Thanks

I was also looking for one of these prior to picking up a different gun. Lequille country store in Annapolis Valley had one about a month ago. Think it was around $850.

The guys are really great to deal with and carry a huge inventory.

Thanks for the info. I already contacted Lequille last winter and it was about $930 so I did not want to spend that much on it and hoped to get a better deal...

My wife has a CZ 20ga O/U Redhead as well as a Yildiz 20ga O/U....she prefers the Yildiz as it just seems to point for her more naturally and is about a full pound less than the CZ...I see you tried a Yildiz O/O put I think the O/U may better suit you more as it has a good forearm to grip and you can get them in 12, 20, 28, or 410. If it is just for grouse maybe 28ga or 410 would work for you if the shots are close....Just a suggestion as I have no idea of the terrain you hunt or the distance of your average shots.

Thanks for the info Jim. I hunt grouse in the Wildlife Reserves of the SEPAQ around the Montreal Region. In these areas that are 2 or 3 hours away from Montreal, Grouse are cautious and a 410 is not a good caliber from my own experience. I even missed with the 20 I have, the side by side Yildiz, as I took ambitious long shots either on the ground or perching up in a high tree...

Yes I should have bought the over under, it was there in the store but I kind of thought I would get a side by side in 20 ga to go with my over under CZ Canvasback 12 Ga. The CZ is very heavy for grouse.

I heard also about the Savage Stevens 555 that is a 20 ga fairly light shotgun and made in Turkey as well it seems... But out of stock in the store around me.

The Stevens 555 is a nice light gun in 12 or 20 gauge in Canada, 28 and 410 as well in USA
I have hunted with the 12 gauge - 6 hours walking - no probs - 6 pounds shoulders well shoots great
I believe the 20 gauge is 5 1/2 pounds Cabelas has(d) them at $750.00
I have seen CZ o/u 20 gauge at Canadian tire for $699.00 not sure if it was a redhead or canvasback
Also very light and shouldered well

I heard some stories of the 555 doubling, but could be isolated cases... It is a Turkish shotgun as well

Our Canadian Tires (Quebec province) do not sell shotguns anymore (since a long time now). Only air guns...

I have a 12 ga Canvasback , reliable and tough but a heavy shotgun for long walks... Maybe the 20ga version is lighter...

I wonder if the low end 20 ga Mallard is reliable.

Grousing if you really want a Yildiz O/U I think there are a few dealers on here with some in stock...I know for a a fact Prophet River (site sponsor) has 12,20,28,and 410's in stock....all featuring extractors and not ejectors and I have dealt with them many times and they are 1st class.

Thanks for the info. I think if I get an o/u Yildiz, I will first sell my side by side 20 ga Yildiz to get some money back and avoid having a similar sleeping shotgun I won;t be using.

Although I am confused now as for what brand to go for, I kind of have the most attraction toward the CZ Ultralight, perhaps because I own a CZ that until now proved to be a reliable tank.
