CZ-USA CZ720 G2 20g 26"

no experience with the cz. however one of my clients brought his young son shooting a youth sa-08 up waterfowl hunting with us. after 3 shoots(on morning, one evening and one morning) i had to break the gun down in the field as it was failing to feed due mainly to the fact that they had not ever cleaned it. once we were back at camp i took the gun apart again and had some additional time to have a close look thru the action and trigger. to action appears to be a beretta a390 type clone, however the fit and finish of the parts is of very much lesser quality than that of the beretta. yes i know that there is a large price difference however one works the action on a squeaky clean semi auto shotgun it shouldn't feel gritty. I'm not sure of the exact price on the sa-08 but i think that weatherby has left much to be desired with this one

Thanks. Yes I also thought of the Weatherby SA 08 deluxe, I do like the tang safety on it.
The 28 gauge would be a great grouse gun, finding ammo around here might be a problem?
I have a CZ 550 FS and love it, very well made, that's why I was thinking of trying their shotgun.
Yes it looks like it would have to be special ordered but grouse season is ways off.
Thanks for the reply so far.

The Weatherby SA-08 doesn't have a tang safety (not sure if the Mossberg version has it though). The recommendation for one in 28ga is excellent if Grouse only and no waterfowl will be in the equation. 28ga Winchester AA target loads shouldn't be a challenge to locate and 3/4oz works just fine for grouse.

You may wish to check Prophet River site for a CZ auto.....I recollect they had some.

I guess I'm mistaken with another model? Yes checked with Clay already, he would have to order one in. I guess I could stock up on 28 when I visit the big cities?
Last night, I picked up a used Winchester Model 1400 Skeet to play with till I make up my mind. :d
I like the 20, I have an 870 and a couple of singles.

CZ rifles are made in Czechoslovakia, are they not? CZ shotguns are made for CZ by a company in Turkey called Huglu. That's not an issue, but it does mean you can't compare the quality of the two based on the brand.

Years ago, I collaborated on an exhaustive review of the new (at the time) CZ shotguns. I quite liked them then and I still do. They are by no means equivalent to the better brands these days, but they nicely fill a gap in the price/performance curve of guns available in Canada. Sadly, as has been said, they're hard to come by in Canada, now. And, I don't know anyone who has experience with their semi-autos.

28 gauge ammo is not a problem... It does cost more than 12/20 gauge shells... but the for cost of a flat you can shoot a wheelbarrow load of grouse, and compared to your other expenses, it is not worth talking about... I love a 28 gauge on upland birds... I move up to 20 gauge for pheasant and sharpies, not that 28's won't kill them dead, but the shots are often longer and a little more payload doesn't hurt.

I didn't think they were made by Huglu but rather by ATA Arms.

Well I don't profess to know every detail. Perhaps CZ contracted different makers for different markets. Or even, different makers for different types (SXS, SA, etc.).

But I do know that all those that I have seen in Canada, and that list includes side-by-sides and under/overs only, were made by Huglu. Many, including my 20 ga., have Huglu stamped on the barrels. All of those I've seen so far have come into Canada from CZ USA.

You know I was always intrigued by the 28. Yes getting a flat wouldn't be a problem and would last forever. If I see a nice used semi I might give it a try. Thanks
