In the hours to come i might have the choice between CZ 455 Varmint and a Varmint savage in a tactical stock.

So far from what i have read,

CZ 455 have better fit and finish, would be more accurate, limited in stock choices to use as a tactical trainer, more expensive, stuck with an integrated 11mm rail (which means airgun/rimfire rings instead of a strudier rings)

Savage mark ll target would be cheaper, has tactical trainer stocks more available and even included in higher end models, can mount full size rifle rings, accutriger is nice, i had an accutriger 308 and if its the same pretty sweet

The scope to be mounted is a Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12x42 with adjustable parallax
The rifle is to be shot at my family's cottage, where my berm is at 60yards, and where im not allowed too much noise because of the farm animals (hence training with a 22)
I'd like to group under an inch for sure at 60yds.

My mind is almost set, which would you chose and why?

I would choose the CZ all day long. ( I own a 452 varmint HMR ) I really like the feel of a wood stock over tacticool black, even though I like the black stuff. I have felt some flimsy Savage black stocks, not sure if the model you are looking at is the same. My friend has a laminated Savage, it shoots great, but has a bit of mag trouble once in a while, CZ mags are good. ( really like the 10 round plastic ones as well. )

I have handled a savage in a black tacticool stock, these stocks are made out of wood and painted with a black texture.
Very sturdy and far from flimsy.

My guess is everyone will say CZ.
Only issue is finding mags.
I have a savage btvs and its a tack driver!!!!

This is also my guess, people that own CZ love them, very much.

I don't own either but handled/shot both. If I could only get one it would be the CZ455 Varmint. IMO built much better and quality materials.
Boyd's sells the Pro Varmint stock for the CZ if you want it more "Tacticool" looking...

The idea behing the tacticool stock (i used the name because boyds call it that way)
The day purchase a precision 308, i want a mcmillan stock and want to train to handle a similar style stock prior

I own both a savage mark ii tr 22lr with vortex cross fire ii 6-24 x 50 BDC reticle and a cz452 varmint with a sightron sii big sky 6-24x42. Hands down the feel of the Boyds PV stock on the TR and larger smoother bolt and accutrigger are nicer on the savage. I find the LOP a little short on the varmint stock. CZ bolt is very stiff and mine is finally loosening up after about 1k rounds. Trigger needed a yo dave kit. Savage needed $20 bottom metal. Savage could use a bedding job as the Boyds stock is a softer wood. $80 to have it bedded by a smith. Accuracy at 50yds is close with a slight nod to the CZ. Lately I'm using the savage for long range 100 to 200 yds mostly shooting clays at 170 yds and paper at 200.I had a group of 10 Shots with 36g mini mag at 3.2" @200 yds with the TR. I have yet to shoot the cz452 at distance. BTW I have done the 50 yd challenge with both my savage and cz452. I have had my best single 5 shot groups with the cz452 I've shot a .10 and 2 .20 groups with it.They both shoot SK standard plus the best and I've tried a lot of ammo.Price is a push with the tr a few pennies cheaper. I like them both the cz is not noticeably better that every one on here likes to say.
Shoulder them both and see what you prefer.
Almost forgot cz mags are about double the price but the are way better than the cheap tin savage mags. Also neither gun has had a FTF or stove pipe, they both go bang every time.

Don't be discouraged by the rail...

Leupold makes rings that work for the dovetailed receiver. In my research, Warne Tactical makes the highest dovetail ring - which was important for my 452 Lux with iron sights.

Fit and finish is important to me; thus, CZ is my choice. The savage will shoot just as good and a lot of folks have proven it.

As for mounting an optic, Diversified Innovative Products out of the US make outstanding rails for the 452 and 455 line up. You can procure their products from Kinneys Shooting Supply. I have ordered from them in the past and have been very pleased with their service.

Do it.

Savage canuck, good point, i have handled the savage mark ll TR and found it decent, without having shot it.
Never handled a CZ455, got an appointment tomorow morning for a local one.
I'll use my gut feeling, so far CZ seems very apreciated.
I guess i'll go lurk the 50M rimfire thread to see what people are using.

If you feel that dovetail grooves are an issue with CZ rifles (they are also on Anschutz rimfires, too) you can put Weaver style rings on a CZ as easy as saying "Bob's your uncle". Get a rail adapter. The majority of CZ shooters (and Anschutz shooters, too, by the way) use dovetail rings with great confidence. Don't let that be a bugaboo unless you want it to be one. There are a lot of rings that do a great job on a CZ: BKL, Burris, Leopold, Sportsmatch, Talley, and Warne to name a few. Pick one that will work with your scope.

There is a consensus that the CZ is the better designed and built rifle. There is a reason for this consensus because it is the cumulative experience of a great number of shooters wherever rimfire rifles are shot. Check out RFC for further confirmation. From my own experience, comparing the two the greatest advantage that lies with Savage is that it is less costly. The CZ rifles have earned a reputation for accuracy. Unlike the Savage Accutrigger, the CZ triggers can be easily and inexpensively be lightened (if that's what you need).

I own a CZ 455 American with .22lr, 22Magnum and .17 hmr Barrels and i love it. With the .17 barrel on I can almost make a single hole at 100 yards with 5 shots. Bolt action is butter smooth and trigger is fantastic since i adjusted it to its lightest setting. (May not be the case for all rifle specimens but i guess i got lucky) I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
